I didn't notice the issue with the images above but then when I looked closely I saw the issue. That is a nice job, but yeah abit of a mistake but it would be nice if the GPU's had those sorts of cut outs in them anyway.

Okay.. So.. He has a drill press, claims to have made his own PC case. Assuming some fabrication competency here. Why the flying Jesus didn't common sense say "mod the bracket, not the card"? It's making my soul hurt.
Reading further down the comments, it seems he didn't need to mod the bracket - this was down to not reading the instructions, and assuming the hole in the bracket needed a counterpart on the PCB! I'd feel ill about shanking a £100 card, but a 980Ti?! Dude, go buy a console.
many a time have i seen friends wreck pc parts not reading instructions, or just plain stupidity. I keep myself limited to ikea furniture for that lol
I remember a HSF I had once where the backplate looked like it would put pressure on some chips on the back of the motherboard. I thought about modding the backplate, cutting out the offending section. I never thought to trim off the section of the motherboard so the backplate fit more neatly . In the end I think I just sold the HSF and got a different one which fit fine.
Impressive amount of craziness - always nice to have someone else make me feel better about my mistakes. I'm not immune to making stupid mistakes. The worst I have done was several years ago when GTA4 came out. My one graphics card was struggling (not sure, but think it was a BFG 580 GTX), so I decided to give SLI a go. Bought the 2nd card, removed the metal expansion bar from the case and like an idiot put it on top of the exposed circuits of upper graphics card. Pretty sure you know what is coming. Got it all setup, fired it up and watched the sparks fly.
I have once dropped a screen I just bought (serves me right for balancing my swanky new 17" CRT on the bed, rather than putting it back in the box when realising i need to make some space). When I finally switched it on, it went "boom" and "fizzle" and smoked... RMA'd it... I also once played with a screwdriver in the back of a running CRT... that's always fun
I read that too, but I also read something about him having a non-reference design, so the bracket would never fit as intended. I got angry, though, and quit reading so I could be missing something.
