The Saint brakes do look tasty. Heading out to Dalby tomorrow with a few friends, including one guy new to the Red trails, should be fun!

I've been riding for 50 years and been reparing bikes for 45 years. I have owned a bike repair shop for 30 years.
    I started on a 20" Huffy
    [IMG]
We made our own chopper bicycles by slamming the hollow top Schwinn forks into each other in a stack of 3, sort of like this:
Then we got 3 speeds on 26" wheels with internal shift hubs.
    Then ten speed bikes
    [IMG]
Then went through the early days of motocross bikes.
Then to touring bikes and road racing bikes.
Then went to mountain bikes and off road again.
And now I have a hybrid with an internal shift hub again.

I'm mainly in to retro, have done a few build but this is my favourite, my '92 Klein Adroit. Excuse the pedals, they were temporary, replaced with Grafton Speedtraps.

For a slightly more modern take I built up this '97 Kona Hot as a 1x10 for my brother.

Thought I'd do any update, both bikes have had some tweaks an toys

    Road bike,
New wheels biggest change big weight saving nearly half a kilo!
    Shimano M520 pedals
Flipped the stem an dipped the bars
swapped back to a layback seatpost
    Swisstop pads
    Carbon stem spacers

Now weight 9.26Kg, dont think itll go much lower

    Mountain bikes been as busy
    DMR Vault pedals
    710mm carbon bar
Shimano M675 brakes front an rear
Hope 32T front ring to replace two twin front, barely ever got into the big ring anyway
Shwalbe Magic Mary tyre up front, old one was a little worn but hopeless with the trails I'm now riding.

Down to 13.46Kg which Isn't shabby

New Zipp 808 Firecrest front has arrived and fitted, the new 28mm width caused some fitting issues as the breaks are hidden inside the front forks, so it's a very tight fit.

Also a new ISM saddle, saves me swapping the current one I have between my bikes which is a PITA. #lazymode.

Ill update again once I have cleaned my sportive!

I'm surprised how wide that front rim is at 27.5mm, although tub rims always were a little wider. When I time trialled, more than 20 years ago, I used Mavic Open 4 CDs in wheels I built myself. According to http://www.bikepro.com/products/rims/rimtables.html they are just 19.7mm wide.

Anyone have any experience of the 8 speed Alfine Charge bikes?
Thinking of getting one and having a change from my generico Kona Dew hybrid.

Charge grater? Alfine systems are nice an simple very little to go wrong on them but will need a service from time to time along with a new chain. Charge mainly used to make components but the bikes are pretty solid.

27.5.tubs are very wide, what width tyre you pitting to that?

I mainly just mooch along Swansea seafront, and because of the sand, weather etc, I have 32' tyres.
    Also, thanks for the advice.

Calling the help of a mechanic / someone with know how? Any idea what this part it called? It's at the bottom of my Matchmaker and attaches my shifter to the Matchmaker. Problem is it's stripped. Any advice? Can I just get a replacement captive nut and bolt?

I'd also like to mount my dropper lever underneath on the right if possible?

If I want to move my dropper to underneath on the right will I have to buy another matchmaker anyway?

I finally got off my arse and got my bike serviced, as I need to get off my arse and lose some weight.

I had no end of grief with my local Halfords when trying to get my bike serviced with them. I was even turned away several times because I was told they were full and couldn't accept any more bikes, despite me having called earlier in the day to check. Every time I actually managed to get my bike in there I asked them to sort out the gear shifting - something which hadn't been right since day 1 - and every time they just made things worse.

So instead I took it up to a local shop, Don Skene Cycles, and went off to do some shopping. Less than an hour later I had a phone call to say it was ready to collect. It feels better than it did when it was new and if I didn't know any better I would swear that new derailleurs had been fitted.

Halfords can do one, my bike won't be going back to them.
