Thanks! Today I have been able to do some of the more labour intensive parts: the handle pieces of which four have to be made with a fairly high degree of precision. So we start with 10mm square brass bar:

After shaping, the pieces are drilled and tapped for M4 screw thread:

And the resulting four pieces, which are now ready for milling:

For this I broke out my new radius mills which have the purpose of making rounded chambers:

And this is how they work:

    And this is the result:

The next stage is drilling out the blind holes for the 6mm cross bars:

And all the brass pieces laid out:

And the PSU cradle more or less complete:

The handles are meant to reflect the shapes of the on/off and reset handle arms at the front of the case:

And the cradle slotted into position:

    Overall shots:

Apologies for the slightly fuzzy shots. I will take some better pictures in time.

Next will be some cable organisation work on the cradle and the motherboard assembly.

Pretty **** sweet there.:D It's fuzzy picture season for the entire northern hemisphere.
I know throwing crazy ideas at you is dangerous, but you could have made the handles with a cam lock so you just twist and release the psu.

Sorry guys. There have been several delays...

    - Work has been really busy and demanding a lot of my time. I mean, a lot..
    - This may sound crazy, but since Teel's death I've found it a bit difficult to start up again. I guess it's some kind of grief. :blah:
    - There has been a traumatic death in my family which has also sucked up all my spare time and energy recently.

So yeah... life intervened, kind of. And death. And all the bits in between. But normal service will resume soon.

Sig was the first I heard about Wayne. :(

I know it seems dumb to give the doctor advise, but the best thing you can do is to press on. I went dormant after the loss of a good friend. Because of that , I essentially lost several years of my life. There's no "I did *" from that time period for my memory to index.
My condolences, and get out and do something special.

    I aten't dead...

It has been a long time since I went back to the lathe and experienced the satisfying bite of cutting tool on brass. There have been many distractions: work, and grief, both on these forums and in my family, and uncertainties about the future. We live in interesting times, of turbulence and turmoil caused by a world that perhaps is changing at a rate faster than man's constitution is adaptable to.

But the sweet bite of the lathe is always a soothing point of stillness in the world. There is just you, and the turning of brass. For a moment, nothing else exists and the world is in balance.

So I've made some thumbscrews for the PSU cradle from some brass rod I had still lying about:

And here they are in place:

And thus, as the brass turns, so does the world. More to follow in time.

    Welcome back!

"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings."

Sometimes we can only hold on to those roots until the time comes to fly.

There's something soothing for me to see the shine of freshly cut brass... Looking forward to the next update!
