It's a known issue that dual-optical mice sometimes decide on the "wrong" image and make tracking glitches. There was no averaging going on. Maybe new models do something different? Regardless, if it was averaging, there would be lag induced that would make it unsuitable for highly skilled players. On that note, I've got a Logtech MX500, and love it. Don't like wireless mice (MX700) so opted for the top optical. Beats the pants off a MS Explorer 3.0 IMO. Try one in a store, you'll like it. Never skips on my pad, and doesn't have _any_ lag issues.
good job. i think its up to personal prefence when it comes to mouse. Optical has its good points and i can pretty much say cheap ball mice are not goin compare to a cheap optical mice. still the best ball mice on the market will perform better than any optical mice in production (you might have some uber company who makes water cooler for mice and some overclocking with the optical) anyhow, i use both optical and ball, optical is perfectly fine since my main mouse is an optical after i borked my ball mice.
Bought the MS Explorer for 85 bucks when it first came out and still using it to this day and has not failed me once. I think my hand has molded into the mouse
I'm still using an OLD Logitech OPTICAL Trackman marble mouse, and it's never failed me to this day. Got a little dirty and I cleaned it out, worked fine. It's gonna be a headache going back to a regular mouse for playing games. Especially since I'm gonna get a Logitech MX500 and a Ratpadz GS.
i use a optical trackball . i think its called explorer ( the silver one by microsoft) i dont play fps so much so its good for me
Optical all the way baby! I use an micro$oft intellimouse explorer v3 with a Ratpadz GS, fantastic combination. BTW, got the Ratpadz from here Geek
I'm an optical man... I've been using a M$ Intellimouse Optical for a couple (few?) years now, picked up the first 4 that came into the Office Max at home @ $79.99/ea. and sold 3 for $100- each at a LAN party that weekend 'cause everyone saw how cool it was... I wound up breaking even 'cause I bought brautwurst & saurkraut and Thomas Kemper rootbear & cream soda (you PNW guys should know what I'm talking about... ) good stuff...
BALLS ! Every time ! Much more control, doesn't have a spaz when you lift it off the mousemat and all you really have to do is pick the bogies off the rollers every once in a while. I use an optical at work and while its okay, I found it really useless for games. I also bought a Razer Boomslang 2000 for games but couldn't get used to the low profile and sloped buttons, so it's sitting in its tin gathering dust while my trusty M$ scroll mouse lets me 0wn all the opti n00bs at CS
I use a logitech optical mouse, and a little old ball mouse in my old comp but i use the optical one for gaming, of course ^^ ball ones do get dusty ... [edit : duh, i ^sait optical mice get dusty ^^]
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooptiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal did i make my self clear enough (and wireless to !!!!!! MX700 )
here's a question for all you logitech fanboys: is the MX700 actually any better than the MX500 interms of 'mousing' ability or si the MX500 purely the MX700 with a wire? Cheers
