Price has rocketed - you can get a Pentium G4620 for nearly £90 less than this i3 ; throw in a board (z270 are near £120 starting , only the cheaper B250 boards are £60 or so) then ram , and your budget PC is over £350 for just 3 things!

This thread is going to fill up with comments from people whining about Brexit isn't it...

Far too much money for what it is, buy a 2nd hand mobo/cpu/ram package instead. When is Ryzen being released? February?

Over a decade after the first consumer dual core cpus they still want £180 for it? No thanks.

A nice idea rendered absolutely pointless by the price.

The fact the Kaby Lake Pentiums [or some of them] now come with HT, makes the price tag of this, unlocked or not, even harder to swallow imo.

And if you need AVX support [which the Pentiums lack], chances are you need something more potent than an i3 anyway.

There's no doubting it's ability as a CPU however with that price tag...

    Nay chance!!

Roll on Zen, Intel need some competition once more to pan out the overall pricing of the CPU market - at present they are taking the piss.

If this had Iris Pro graphics, of the GT3e or even GT4 variety, it would be a very compelling one chip solution for a speedy, compact, lighter-weight desktop that could also game. As it is however it's utterly hilariously overpriced. it's a *14nm dual core* with meh integrated graphics for north of £180, it is ridiculous!!

This would have to be nearly half the price to be worth buying these days. I don't see the point of spending nearly £200 on a dual core CPU. Ridiculous.

It got a recommended award? Really?

Even at £120, it is overpriced. You could get a locked Skylake i5 for £145 before priced rocketed, even if that's due to Brexit.

What is the best current AMD CPU you could get for GBP180? Hmmm. An 8-core unlocked FX 8350 for 20 pounds less.

Did some extra testing today that I'll try to get up in a blog post soon. It will validate our conclusion :)

Yep, and even an Intel Core i3-4130 (3.4GHz) would match it for performance in many tests, never mind a 5GHz Kaby Lake. Plus it will draw twice the power and need a hefty cooler.

Or just buy a used Xeon from 1 - 2 gens ago on fleabay for £100 and it will obliterate that AMD chip even in the most heavily multi threaded software.
(no idea why, but for some reason used Socket 2011 Xeons are laughably cheap atm).

But none of that solves the problem that Intel is charging quad core money for the 7350k, which is ridiculous, regardless of it being the best dual core cpu ever made.

TBH you could delid it and gold plate the IHS and it still would not be worth £183.

Seriously, I am much disappoints. Much disappoints..

If no one stands up and says "hey this is BS" then Intel just get another green light.

Not that I care too much because AMD will have something to say soon (thank god, 'the f*** next £500 for a quad core Intel?!?!) but yeah, £183 for an I3 is inexcusable. And an award for it is almost as bad.

Has to be one of the most pointless, if not the most pointless CPU Intel have ever released.
