problem is... if you type fast, then it doesn't have enough time to fade :) might be good for a second keyboard project tho

hmmm....for the negative, if you tipe fast... how about make it instantly turn off when u pressit and fade in after depressed until it is fully lit, but that might make the electronics a lil bit more complicated

It should be fairly easy to do actually with no extra electronics I think. My brain's fried right now since I just got in from college but it should be a very simple thing to set up.

That build up isnt from the machine moving to slow, its from it moving to fast.

The acrylic is melting and building up on the bit. Im guessing the coolent isnt enough.

Although, I may be wrong about everything.

I asked about this a long time ago, over on cnczone. The thread is here if you are interested. As with all materials that heat up quickly, you need to get the spindle out of the way of the chips or vice versa as quick as possible to prevent the build-up. I could only go slower if I was using a slower spindle speed, which unfortunately my router won't do. I guess much lighter cuts would have beed the order of the day, but that's when the old machine lost it's accuracy.

Here's a quote from a plastics tooling manufacturer:

I think I misunderstood the original problem.

I thought the bit was SPINNING to fast. Which it probably isnt. What im getting is that the bit isnt moving from place to place as fast as it should. like from one side to another.

  10. anymore updates on this mod, im really getting into it, hope u have it almost done, cant wait to see the finished product

Mail me the dxf's and thickness you want it done out of and I'll see if I can get my mate to put it on the mill at work if it becomes free at some point.

As far as tooling is concerned, acrylic is nasty stuff. You may want to consider polycarbonate since it will hold up better in both the construction phase, and the actual usage.

To make things a little easier on you, had you considered slicing the buttons out of a sqaure or round rod of material? You could produce extremely unform buttons in no time at all that way.

i've got an idea if you can't make keys and beige keys suck why not spray paint them silver or get them chromed and then paint or use adhesive letters, the chrome or silver paint should look good with the clear plexi.

and also make a matching mouse :)

looks promising, keep up the work!

couldnt you mould a key and then pour see thru plastic into the mould?

it might go all cloudy though.
