Thanks for the nice comments folks, As for the dimensions of the case, all the clear acrylic is 5mm and the orange neon plexi is 3mm. The case is 200mm wide. 510mm High and 420mm deep. as for the dead links to the pics, It seems there is a router problem with the main bandwidth provider in SA, apparently the link keeps bombing out ( I've had about an hour of international access here all day) I think its sorted now please let me know? I can always move the pics to a international host if need be. Sheik ps I just finished spraying the CD Drives so I will have some new pics soon
Soz folks but it seems our biggest ISP has been having problems. The links to my pics were dead for a few hours They seem to have fixed the problem now. Sheik
Ok.. what now? That's incredible. LCDC software? I've been following this thread for awhile, so excuse me if you spoke about this in detail but.. I want some of that! Can you explain about this more? IS it a hardware software package? Something that came with your LCD? AND it's remote controlled?
OK heres some more info on my LCD and IR setup. The LCD is a Matrix Orbital serial with 8 high power 12V outputs. The Software is LCDC and if you own an LCD display and are NOT using this then do yourself a favour and get it today!!!! Basically LCDC lets you assign various screens to your display and allows you via plug ins to interface your screen with most software apps like Motherboard Monitor, Winamp etc. The is also a IR plug-in which lets you program any remote to interface with LCDC this in turn allows you to control a few apps on your pc like Volume, all winamp controls etc. It also lets you brows the lcd screens you have set up and with the LCD i have lets you control the 12V outputs. Here is a brief rundown of my LCD. It monitors my temps via Motherboard Monitor and reacts accordingly, so if my temp rises it automatically switches on my Fans in order (first the blow hole then front the back) It checks my mail server every 10 mins and if there is mail waiting it flashes 2 bright blue leds and displays the Email screen on the LCD which tells me how many mails are on the server and who they are for. If I join an on-line game of Counter Strike it will lock to a LCD screen that displays my score, rank, current map and the score and names of all the other players. It also displays all kinds of system info like my External IP, drive space free, cpu usage, mem usage etc etc etc. It displays a running Download meter and keeps tabs on seti and UD and also retrieves the daily weather and news from MSN. The IR module i built for a few $ and runs also via a serial port. no extra IR software is needed if you use LCDC. The remote is a 3 function universal remote (For the TV sat and VCR) I use the VCR and TV functions for my pc and the Sat to control my decoder for my TV card) The IR controls a lot of my pc's functions from CDrom opening and closing to switching the screen of to locking my pc. and switching lights fans and led's between on off strobe and flash. I think that covers most of the details. Like I said the number of options are amazing Sheik
That's pretty incredible.. been wanting to buy one of those LCD screens for a bit.. but they're $99's and there's a lot of things I want to get that cost that much or less. ( need a new sub for my HT, more tools, new DVD player for HT ). I have a few too many expensive hobbies. I have a TV card that has its own IR receiver which is supposed to be able to control other programs as well. ( Leadtek Winfast TV 2000 XP ). Do you think this would be able to control the Matrix as well? Right now I have a nexus to conrol fans... but if I get the money, I'd love to throw an orbital in there.
Yip i know all about expensive hobbies Check out this site Meblin he sells and even shows you how to make your own IR receiver for a few $ and even without the LCD just get the Winlirc software and you could control a lot of apps. My Media pc in my lounge uses this software to control TV tool and my music and Movie proggs. Sheik
I have not been too particularly interested in the clear cases though you have done an excellent job of making this look good. I love the Orange touches. Very professional looking work. Keep it up.
this case looks amazing - wish i had seen it earlier. any idea how much you've spent on this entire project? only negative comment is: why did you use the HL logo instead of making one of your own - like "C2" or something? too many positive comments to add them all: love the colours, love the lcd, love the plugs for the fan........ do you have any night photos?
The Plexi in total was around $150 the LCD with shipping was LOTSA $$$ (check out the matrix orbital site) Prob around another $50 on extras like HDD coolers and Paint. and of course all the PC components which I had from my previous case. I never planed on making a logo for the case until someone commented on how the colors looked a lot like HL2 so on a whim I made the HL2 logos. I will make a few different logos and interchange them to relive boredom I'm almost done with a few little extras and then I will post some more pics (night shots) Thanks again for all the kind words peeps. Sheik
Hello i'm french and i'm supprised of the quality of you mod... Very Nice Job I've a question about something... How do you do the thing arround the fan cable? Thanks
Hi, Thanks for the compliment. Its a trick I learnt from G-gnome Its cable braiding from RS-Component's in some clear silicone pipe (Fish Tank Hose) its a major pain to feed it through the hose. The best way is to tie some thin cable to the braid then pull the cable and braid through then slide the cable into the braid and pipe. Sheik
Hei Hei nog 'n suid afrikaner!!! (Hey hey another Southa African) just wondering where u bought the LCD from and how much it costs where xactly is this "plastic place" or whatever situated as I would like to order a couple of this from them. Do u know if they deliver since i am sitting in Oudtshoorn of all places! VERY "lekka" mod man!
Lo dude welcome to the forums. The Perspex is from Plastic World in Selby (JHB) 011 493-8492 the LCD is from www.matrixorbital.com I don't think they make this model anymore. But it is the Digital Baybus. They do ship to SA but it is expensive. Sheik
Update It is almost done now I have bloood the CDRW and DVD drives and mounted all the logos. Here are some pics. This is what I saw the first time I switched all the lights on.
looks bloody sweet, best *completed* acrylic case i have seen (dont count me as a noob, i frequent OCAU but have started browsing here due to the more interesting mods happening here, i have seen my fair share of acrylics ) what i think really sets it apart [as does g-gnome's project] is that you have a set colour scheme that is followed very well and looks very classy, so it doesnt just look like a clutter of mess i love it
