My boy is 11 which excludes him from COD, Deus Ex etc Could you give some recommendations for him other than sports and racing games he would enjoy? Cheers.
Portal 2, Minecraft, Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed (Mario Karts basically). Think they're all available on XO.
Off the top of my head: Unravel Plants vs Zombies 2 The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 Transformers: Devastation Never Alone Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Lara Croft: Guardian of Light I'll also have a flick through my game collection when I get home as I have a whole 'kids games' shelf (most are enjoyable for adults too) for when my niece/nephew comes to visit.
Schrodinger's cat and the raiders of the lost quark (2D platform game) any of the Lego games. de Blob 2 (BC 360 game, 3D platformer) Jumpjet Rex (mobile phone style game) Minecraft vertical drop heroes Mega coin squad Slime Rancher Skylanders (though this might work out expensive once you've bought a few figures for it). Lego Dimensions (again, this can be expensive) Rayman Legends Plants vs Zombies (bc 360 game) Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare (1 or 2) although these are multiplayer only games.
Another vote for Unravel, a gorgeous game made with so much love. Had me sobbing. (Rated 7) A looooooot of kids play Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, but I advise muting all other players as they all seem to have Kinect too. I heard way too many tantrums about stopping playing to eat dinner than I ever needed to hear when I was playing! (Rated 7) Astroneer is adorable, it's early access but they're working on it all the time and it functions well enough to be fun. Also, some of the bugs are hilarious! (Rated 3) Snake Pass is fantastic. Highly recommend it. An 11yr old will probably be quicker at getting used to the controls than I was! (Rated 3) Yooka-Laylee could be a good introduction to what camera controls were like when we were younger! (Rated 7) RiME, haven't played it, but it looks really nice and a little Breath of the Wild-y. (Rated 7) I haven't played it myself, but some of my friends enjoyed Moon Hunters. It has local co-op too so you could play it together. (Coming soon, out on June 19th). (Rated 7) Pit People is rated teen because it has that borderline kind of humour. But there's a free hour trial so you could see if you think it's OK for your son. It's really, really silly Also, local co-op. (Rated 16) Another that's really up to you to decide is Stardew Valley, I mention it because it does look like a kid's game, but you need to be aware it deals with issues like alcoholism and PTSD. It's rated 10+ with mild warnings that characters smoke, get drunk, etc.
As promised, here's what's on the shelf that my niece (aged 12) has access to... other than what I previously listed. Overwatch (supervised) Ori and the Blind Forest Raymand Legends Yooka-Laylee LEGO games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter & Marvel) Child of Light Overcooked Seasons after Fall Worms Battlegrounds Oceanhorn - Monster of Uncharted Seas Bastion Beyond Eyes Unmechanical Portal Knights Grow Up Out of all of the games in my collection, I'd say Portal Knights, Yooka-Laylee, Never Alone and Oceanhorn are the more popular ones with my niece.
Wow, didn't realise I'd get so many recommendations! Thanks all. Going to read some reviews and draw up a shortlist.
