Thats ok, im not sure, if i mentioned it.
My plan is to put heatsinks on them. When the graphics card is under load, the fans should be running and be able to cool them enough.

Today i finished work on the back. A friend also helped me out with his CNC by milling the grooves for the heatpipes.

Do you have a clamping plate planned?

got the clamping plate milled. Still need to cut out a few sections and drill holes in it and tap threats in the heatsink.

in the end, it will somehow look like this:

    Great project!

I can't wait to see all those heat pipes in place!

    yes me neither ;)
I hope to get that done and install at least the mainboard this weekend.

Today i cut a few sections out of the clamping plate, drilled a few holes in it, countersunk them and drilled holes for the threats into the heatsink. I will tap those threats tomorrow.

impressive work. Looking forward to those pipes!

If you're still looking for an original name, perhaps some old greek might do the trick?
    Siope [σιωπή]: silence
Galene [γαλήνη]: stillness (specifically of the wind and the sea)
    Aphonos [ἄφωνος]: voiceless

Or if you like acronyms: S.H.H., Silent Humongous Heatsink :p:

    thanks guys!
@Pliqu3011: those are really good ideas! S.H.H. would have been awesome, but i had to decide two weeks ago when signing up for the DCMM, so i went for Monolith.

    progress marches on:

New name: You can edit the project title here on this forum, FYI.
I see you have a power outlet dangerously close to the PCB as well. :thumb: We should start a club.

Thanks, ill get that done soon.
I think it looks closer than it actually is. It should be fine ;)

Yesterday i got a few smaller things done like the mount for PSU, which is now attached to the rest of the system and my heatpipe bending tools.

And i just started a test run. At the moment i cant really tell you much about the temperatures. In idle it is below 40°C.
I even started up Prime95 for a few minutes and within a few seconds the temperature went up to about 80°C and stayed there until i quit the test.
I will be testing more when everything is mounted.

80!?!? A large amount of thermal paste for the pipes may be in order.

Well it is 7700K, which all seem to run pretty hot.
But nontheless im not really pleased with the temps. I did use some thermal paste on all the parts, but I guess the part that sits on the CPU and the pipes dont have really good contact. But i cant tighten the screws anymore, the mainboard already starts bending.
I have an idea how to solve that. Hopefully i get that done tomorrow.

Do you know what temperature your 'heatsink' is getting upto? you could have just saturated the heat sink. I seem to remember a similar build where slow running fans were the fix, they were used to push the heat away from the heatsink to reduce the heat a little as the natural air transfer wasnt upto the task.

With my quick calculations you shouldn't of saturated the heatsink with the CPU alone, no where near! (I'm guessing the heatsink is about 250x250x60 ish?) Have you considered trying to solder the heatpipes? You'd need a monster of a soldering iron but may improve temps...

Its about bedtime, so just some quick answers. Pprime95 has been running for about an hour and tmax is about 75-77°C for a short period. Most of the time the temps are below 70°C.

No, the heatsink did not seem to get warm at all in the first test. Its 300x300x84mm in size.
The problem was that the heatpipes didnt have good contact with the copper cooler.

I fixed that today. I used a reamer for the contact area of the heatpipes. I used one before, but still took a lot of material out today. Dont know what happened there.
Also taped some threats in each cooler, so i can clamp the heatpipes without needing pressure from the mainboard.

One additional thought, I see that you have several heat pipes that extend beyond the copper heat sink. I not sure how critical it is to have the heat pipes end as close as possible to the heat sink.

Im not sure, if it that really matters. But its something i wont be able to change anyways.

I started work on that PSU.
    First, disassembly:

    then, same technique as before:

    turned out good:

also attached a regular fan header to the PSU, so that i can attach the fan sitting above it:

also started working on the cooling for the graphics card:

Update for the graphics card. Tomorrow i still need to make a mount to increase pressure on the rear end of the graphics card and then i can hopefully start it up passively cooled :brrr:
