I'm wondering about how quiet it would be reasonable to a assume a CPU and GPU custom WC build could be compared to say a Kraken x62 cooling a 3570k and say an ASUS GTX 1070 Strix with its own cooler. To narrow the variables, if only just a bit, my thoughts on a custom loop would be an EK-D5 PWM G2 running at low RPM. In regards to the radiator, I'm not entirely would be enough to cool my 3570k and a (probably coming) GTX 1070, but I'm thinking a 280 or 420 rad with EK-Vardar F1-140 (1150rpm) fans. My Kraken x62 is currently doing a pretty good job of cooling my 3570k (with a 5 GHz OC it currently goes to 60-70 celsius when under full load, using the silent mode). But ultimately I want to do a scratch build and I'm trying to figure out what would be the lowest noise option. Thought the experienced people here could be of help, all feedback appreciated.
If you want quiet then I'd go for 2x 280 rad or single 420 might do if reasonably thick. Should be quiter than the gpu hsf when watercooled, as long as you balance your fan curve properly. I'd get higher rpm fans though, better to have that extra headroom if you fancy clocking the nuts of it for a bit of benching fun If ultra quiet is what you're after though, consider getting a specialised case like one of the nanoxia deep silence jobbies.
The more rad space, the quieter you can have your fans. The reason being that there is more space for the heat to be dissipated. I'd put those two, your CPU and GPU, on a 360mm if it were me. 240mm is cutting it a little close with the TDP, especially seeing as the CPU is at 5 GHz. The EK D5 PWM is a fantastic pump and very quiet until around 60-65% speed.
Thanks for the input. I do put a lot of value on low noise, so the case looks interesting. Then again I hope to make my scratch build become reality so for now I think going with two 280 rads is the option I favor. Luckily I have a EK D5 PWM lying around (G1 though, apparently there's a G2 now?) Other than the Vardar fans I've been thinking about either Noctua NF A14 or Be quiet! Silent Wings 3.
