Win 10 on pent desktop. 2 SSD drives one is the main C drive the other a backup. I did a clean instal of W10 on my C drive a while back and it works fine. The backup drive which has a lot of my wanted programs on it also works fine but I can't get it to connect to the internet.
Are you getting error messages? Is it a wired or wireless connection? If wireless can you temporarily try wired and vice versa?
wired and using wireless gives same result. Error messages I get just basiclally say it can't connect. Trying to run the trouble shooter tells me something is preventing it from running and gives the code 0x80070057 and says "Engine" if that means anything. How do I get to the actual basic settings of both drives in order to compare them.
It might be worth trying out some of the fixes mentioned here. In particular I'd try option 2 relating to the Windows Update error first. I have a vague recollection that there were problems with Windows Updates earlier this year which were subsequently fixed. Although I don't recall them causing connection problems it may just be related.
It does indeed sound like the DHCP bug that M$ introduced with one of their updates earlier in the year.
Right click your network connection in the bottom right of the task bar. Click on network settings. Then click on adapter or advanced settings in the left of the window that pops up. It should be familiar from there.
OK, when I try that I get " Broadband connection" and "LAN connection" LAN seems OK. Broadband says "unavailable device missing" gives the options Delete/rename/properties. Clicking properties gives the message "Unexpected Error Ocurred"
Still not getting anywhere, any other takers. From what I can gather O/S is not seeing the router but I can't figure out why not.
Not sure why you've got it set up like that... Delete both if possible and then go into device manager by right clicking the start button, and clicking on device manager. Look unf3r networking devices and see if it is there. If there's anything showing with an exclamation marker, then let us know and we can go from there.
Thanks to all, fixed by a pro who lives in my road who I saw while we were getting our Flu vacs this morning. Not sure what he did but only took him a few minutes and no charge. A stroke of good fortune for once but I do appreciate your help.
