I ditched my 7950 a while ago to help pay off something rather large and have a little cash now. I recently missed a deal on a RX580 from a forum user and had a look around. What the actual f***?

Is it just me or are all these GPU prices massively inflated? I appreciate it's just before xmas, but the 2nd hand market is dire as well right now.
It has been a while since I've bought anything.. am I THAT out of touch?

For now I can run on software rendering if I crank the graphics down and stick to something on the source engine, but there are other things which don't hold up so well on the intel.

    Mini rant over.

Think we'll get a glut of new (used) cards come the 26th?

    Example: asus 580 8gb being £350ish, 1070's over £400.

Welcome to the world of mining. 580s were selling for well over $400 USD each in recent months.

There was absolutely no stock. Miners bought them as soon as they could from anywhere.

Miners mate. They whacked the prices up some time ago and when the retail market got thin they started paying silly money for 2nd hand cards.

Yeah, prices have been bonkers for months now. Shame, because I could do with a new GPU, but I refuse to pay the silly prices. You could get a 1060 6GB for £200 about a year back, and now they're more like £280. No thanks!

The only "reasonable" options are to find a 2nd hand 1060 6GB for around the £200 mark or pick up a new 3GB version for 180.

Will hamper some games but if you plan to game at 1080 should be fine most of the time.

Yep prices are up again even since a few weeks ago. Some mug recently paid £210 for a GTX780 on ebay... no idea what was going through his/her head but it sure wasn't sense. I've been browsing ebay for a cheap GPU and nothing is going cheap atm.

Holy shitballs the price of graphics cards is depressing. I can sell my r9 290 on ebayfor more than I got it for, if only there were something worth replacing it with.

If you're willing to pay through the nose for it. Meanwhile, the 200 quid I paid for an r9 290 in 2014, buys me, today... wait for it... an r9 290.

    That's ****ing ridiculous.

You could get a 1060 3GB for a bit less than £200 and technically it would be an upgrade, not enough of one to be worth it, but much better than value than what AMD offers for GPUs at the moment.

Not sure it's an upgrade.. 1060 is about as quick as a 970 IIRC and that was about dead level with a 290. AMD cards continue to improve too, unlike Nvidia cards. However I won't argue about the massive heat and noise and power consumption reduction, but I don't really think it's worth doing.

I just popped a 1050ti in a rig I just built and it’s performing about the same as my R9 380 at 1080p. They’re not very expensive. Better than software or intel HD only at least.

Something like 5% of an upgrade, but yep, not worth it.

I think the true upgrade would be 1070 and 980Ti. However, having looked around this morning I can say with much certainty that prices are ridiculous. That's like over two year old performance for over £400 FFS. They are joking. I wouldn't even mind if the 1070 had a boost, heck, anything over the 980Ti but it does not. My Titan XM was identical to a 1070. It won in DX11, it lost in DX12 by about the same margins (about 3%, or the margin of error).

I can't believe Nvidia still want that much money for that much performance. It's not even good enough for 1440p maxed out any more either, as my T XM was starting to creak (low 30s DX and 40 FO4). So I would bet something newer like Quantum Break could make it cry at 1440p which was why I swapped it out for a T XP.

The thing is, T XP (big P) are selling second hand for around £600. I saw two this morning on the OCUK MM. That is around the same price as a 1080Ti, and that is almost double the performance of the 1070. So for an extra £200 you get double the performance.

And the 1080 is still the stupid price it was at launch, too, which was too much then FFS. 20-30% more performance than a 980Ti, yet double the second hand price of the 980Ti then (around £260).

One good thing is that I bought my XP quite a while ago now and it's nice to see I would lose very little if I chose to sell. I won't of course, but yeah that is probably about the only good thing I can see in the GPU market right now.

20% off code on ebay until 6pm if you see anything there. May make prices a bit more easy to swallow, not been checking gpus though.
