Full 10 speed SRAM GX Drivetrain!

Was tempted to go 11 speed SLX, would have only worked out £30 more, but I haven't used a SRAM setup in YEEAAARS (since I had a mix of X5/X7 9-speed stuff). The bike build has begun, lads... Time to get fit again.

Wasn't gonna spend more money on bike stuff today, but came across these on Ebay (guy ripped them off a new bike) and couldn't let that kind of deal get away.

Pulled the trigger on a data upgrade to 200GB for the 4G broadband, which should reduce usage anxiety significantly. The new modem included is theoretically twice as fast too - I'm content with the speed now, but if that translates into more real-world speed, even better.

Virgin's availability checker has changed from "we're on our way" to "sorry, we're not available in your area", which didn't seem like a good sign.

Look on the bright side - they've been and dug our street up to fit the trunking and made a complete mess of what was an unblemished pavement. Multiple sections have fallen apart this winter, the bits they filled in are now eroding, and the mis-aligned/misplaced cuts through the tarmac remain untarred.

The answer from Virgin, the contractor and the workers on the job? "Someone else's problem mate."

Wow. You'd think it would be sensible for the council to inspect any work and make the contractors put it right if it's not up to snuff. But then "sensible" is probably a naughty word when it comes to councils. I guess they need to make sure they have something to spend their budget on at year end.

The rules are that they need to guarantee road work for 3 years on what is classed as minor work, 5 years for major stuff. All work should be built to a '10 year' standard though. Authorities do check sometimes, I think it's more down to lack of resources than a disinterest.

As a side note, if the work is not carried out to the recognised standard, or improper materials used, then the work is never classed as signed off and the guarantee never starts. So if the authority inspects it say 10 years later they can (and do) force the contractor to redo the work for free if something wasn't done right. Admittedly, much more likely to focus their attention on main roads though.

The rules will soon be changing too - to likely become much more stringent, with greater penalties.

    Trade-up!

    1. Buy Philips bluetooth gym headphones in Currys clearance for measly £6.49
    2. Watch as Philips headphones break 2 months later *sad face*
    3. Spend £11 on cheapo Soundpeats for gym use with Amazon discount code (circa £20 rrp)
    4. Get sent alternative £60 replacements from Philips *confused face*
    5. Find Sennheiser HD579s in Argos clearance for £53.99 *happy face*
    6. Sell surplus Philips replacements to keep wife happy *bonus wife XP earned - levelled up*

That's some man-maths combined with generosity from Philips to trade up to something costing £139 at most stores

Interesting, I'll try speaking to them again.

Our local council is very strapped for cash, so I can't really blame them, it's Virgin and the contractor's fault for being such slap-dash cheapskates. The pavement in front of our driveway is disintegrating having a couple of 2T barges rolled over it every day, even slowly. :(

Bit of pavement on my walk to the tram stop for work collapsed the other day while i was at work, and looks like it was the works virgin did to install to all the houses recently.

I heard that spray painting in white or fluorescent yellow giant dicks with balls around them gets the problem fixed.

Virgin laid cables here several months ago, still not available and all the pavements look like a right dogs dinner now.

Bought a tiny palm sized rc car. It's from a chinese site so there's the risk it won't turn up but with a discount code and points deduction it was £4.80 delivered.

Its sole use is going to be chasing (or running away from) the cat!

Ooooh now there's an idea, I may have to look for one now.

Not sure it would survive too long with my cat though.
