What if the ISPs got onboard, and folks caught using cheating software get a two second delay added to their packets, online games unplayable so it's not an outright ban, as email, downloads etc all still work. I know it'd never happen in reality but if you abuse a system in other aspects of life - you tend to have your experience with that system curtailed, be it roads, shops, education etc.

So, your response to anti-cheat software breaking a game for innocent players is to propose a system that would break (or at least degrade) everything? That... that doesn't sound like a good idea t'me.

no, the delay would only be issued to the mac addresses of the guilty cheaters

That's exactly my point: PUBG's anti-cheat patch was also only supposed to break the game for guilty cheaters, but it turns out that telling the difference between guilty cheaters and innocent gamers is harder than it thought.

(Also, MAC? Really? It's one command to change yer MAC in Linux. A fact which you can, should you so wish, abuse to gain infinite five-minutes-free sessions on captive-portal Wi-Fi hotspots...)

I'm not sure about the technical aspects of being able to mask the identity of the cheating host. Surely an ISP would be the most likely source capable to administer some sort of discipline. Perhaps it's too difficult in reality, but was an idea of punishment for ill behaviour

Region locking China and enforcing maximum ping times for server connections would solve most of PUBG's cheating problems. Chinese LAN cafes quite literally sell cheat packages for popular games over the counter, it's X Yuan per hour to play or it's Y Yuan per hour to play with this cheat package or it's Z Yuan to play with this overlay and these cheats.

Bluehole/PUBG Corp want to avoid locking China out at all costs, since those legions of Chinese hackers and industrial grinders are making them money and if they're locked in with themselves that flow of cash will reduce.

Ping locking would make region locking China obsolete anyway since the required infrastructure for acceptable ping (by FPS standards) between Asia / America and Asia / Europe doesn't exist.

A hardware ban would be much better for players caught cheating, When you install the game, the system generates an ID or a combination of your hardware ID. So you 'd have to replace expensive hardware each time you were banned, rather than finding another email account to register your next free game account.

it really has turned the Steam hardware stats on its head as well with the sheer number of chinese accounts banned for Cheating ( all of which count towards the Steam Hardware stats )
but again, banning the cheats is more lucrative than either preventing the cheats working, or hardware bans. With over 1,000,000 accounts banned in Jauary alone, the Cheating problem is only Escalating, and Cheats are even being shipped with Guides telling you how to avoid detection for longer by only using it sparingly for instance. This has a knock on effect where players are so used to being owned by cheaters, that even legitimate kills get questioned ; Did he get lucky by getting the drop on my team, or did they use ESP to see me through the walls, Did he get lucky after 7 misses by getting 3 headshots, or did he activate an aimbot mid spray ?

so not only do you have Internet Cafe's selling cheats over the counter, you also have people hacking to acquire the loot-crates, that they sell sell online to make money, and it just creates a situation where even Battleeye ( the Anticheat they use ) Report that 99% of the cheaters they have banned are from China, with some sources claiming well over 100 accounts banned from a single MAC address...

Personally i would just move all the Cheaters to a private 'cheater only' server

Absolutely. The steam oubliette would be the best of all worlds. The cheaters get to cheat, sell their scammy **** only to other cheaters, the rest of us don't have to worry about them.
