another of my friends came up with another way to improve the pacing of the film my altering ( or massively shorterning ) the sidequest...

instead of all the silly horse racing nonsense, have the Empire mk2 intercept the transmission to Maz, and have hackerman's character a plant, it makes his 'defection' make more sense, and can cut out the whole getting captured bit nobody really cared about... and he could of observed the passing through the shields bit, handed that to the Empire mk2, and that is when they spot the transports using the same masking trick as they get away from the cruiser...

makes sense, cuts out alot of BS, still puts everyone where they ended up at the end....

not that it would of saved the film from all the flak its been getting

Finally got round to watching this today. What an awful film. And I don't mean an awful star wars film, I mean awful full stop. Truly abysmal. It was like someone put jedi, spaceballs and galaxy quest in a blender and tried to make it serious.

While watching the order chase the remaining few rebel ships I was reminded of this scene from Austin Powers

So the rebel ships are faster while not travelling at lightspeed (apart from those bombers with their 'snail drive'), so let's just meander behind them like a sulking child in a boring shop. Erm, no. You've got about a dozen star destroyers and the gigantor mothership. Send half ahead at lightspeed to get ahead of them and catch them in a pincer movement or flank them or just generally don't be stupid and let them walk away extremely slowly. Like, durrr :duh: 2 armadillos?

So many ridiculously stupid things, I wanted the rebels to die in the end. They deserved it. And then the order should have killed themselves for being such feckin eejits. It was like having a cast of Dougal Mcguires. Which is another thing, I thought a lot of the acting was wooden or inappropriately ott, from rey especially.

And it's a shame because there were some good bits of star wars in there. Luke's projection especially. It's just a shame they shoehorned a star wars film into the script of Pacific rim 37: space rim. Space rim also being the sequal to space jam. And the porno version of space jam. And the name buzz aldrin and Neil armstrong's sex tape. :eyebrow:

I wanted them to die in the first ten minutes with the dreadnought captain bellowing the words "Launch all fighters and target that cruiser! Shut up Hux!" as soon as it arrived on the scene. But nope, the tone is set with the opening sequence and everything remains just about as stupid from then on.

it's not even 'because movies' type thing, like a 5 minute countdown lasting 20 or not killing someone immediately because bad guys like playing with their food kind of stuff. it's just stupid. i'm sure in the opening sequence hux says to fire at will on the base AND ships, but they stop shooting after a couple of shots on the base. it's poor and incredibly lazily written.

Finally got around to watching it last night, it is definitely like someone stuck ESB and RotJ in a blender. Too many similarities in the outline...
Start by fleeing planet containing rebel base [check]
Go to find suspicious character for help [Lando/whatever Benico's codebreaker character was called]
Suspicious character betrays to the empire to keep out of trouble.
    Sith-Lord killed by Sith-Lord jr.

On the plus side, didn't notice as much lens flare this time around.

One thing I didn't like was why did the ships only have like 18 hours of fuel, surely a ship of that size would have enough fuel to run for a few days - assuming that Hyperdrive isn't used constantly.

You know I'm going to watch them all and will no doubt complain that they're crap. But I likes me a bit of punishment :naughty:

Trouble is I really liked Rogue One and Solo is being directed by the guy behind Apollo 13, Rush and Arested Development.

But I'm definitely not bothering with the next Abrams movie, the first one was OK but bland, the second one has been offensively bad. All the third one needs is some explosions set to the Beastie Boys and he'll have succesfully offed both of the great sci-fi space opera franchises, which might have been his plan all along looking back.
