CPU delivered. Still stuck at work, and I won’t be going home. My father in law has been omitted to hospital with a possible heart attack or symptoms of one at the least. :(

I'm still not going to bite, even though Ryzen 7 2700X is looking very tempting. DDR4 will not get my money unless it drops to a more reasonable price. So guess I'll be sitting this one out till DDR5.

I doubt it will be much cheaper when DDR5 comes around. :(

Brendan, sorry to hear your father in law is unwell.
Stuff like that puts things like not getting to try your new CPU or your PC popping into perspective.
I hope he is OK and recovers well. Worrying times mate.

Thank you, Tre. Looks like he is okay, and will be going home tonight. We are just waiting for the call to go and pick him up.

The CPU can sit in its box for another day... it’s no big deal. :)

I remember dropping £200 on 2GB 1600MHz DDR3 just for bragging rights to own the Asus Maximus Extreme X58 Mobo. Today I'm more wise to spending money on things that will last.

Since I game at 4K, and my CPU is not the bottleneck at that resolution, I can wait till then, unless I find a bargain set. :)

IIRC AMD said there was no 2800X as they had all their [price] bases covered... imo that means they're expecting the desktop i9 or whatever intel call it to be trading blows with low-end threadripper on price.

The 2800x will only come if the rumoured desktop i9 is amazing [unlikely] and/or relatively cheap [also unlikely].

Depends on the top bin. Is it 4.3ish? or are there some that go higher? If they do then solution 1. Stockpile them. If you need to release a 2800x at a point you will have them. Or, if you don't need to simply slip that stock into 2700x boxes and give people an Easter egg.

    Kind of makes sense:

The I7 -8700K and the I7-7800X are both around £300.
The I7-7820x is around £450 - 500 depending on the shop.

So if there is little to no price difference again then the upcoming 8 core from Intel should be well over £400 too.

So a relatively small price drop on the 12 core Ripper (which AMD will have to do regardless of Intel in order to clear the channel of 1st gen Ripper before 2nd gen Ripper hits) will have the 8 core from Intel covered.

Not good news for AMD, for sure. Intel means business on both fronts, and unlike AMD, have the resources to do it.

Well he left AMD. He seems to be a very free spirit, and likes moving around a bit. I will say this, though, I would rather he be making CPU techs than working on cars. Man is a genius, so Intel must be chuffed to have him onboard.

IDK whether they were planning to do this (head hunt) but either way I can dig it :)

...you know that cars have CPUs in them, yes? I'm thinking Tesla didn't hire him to change tyres.
