I might be flying soon and maybe taking my shuttle with me. Will the x-ray machine hurt it? I can't exactly turn on the computer to show that it's working, anyone else taken a shuttle through a US airport lately?
Dont pass it thru the machine. Just stick some thumb screws in the back and when you get to the machine, just hand it to the person and tell them youll open it up for them and show them the insides. Either that, or take the harddisk out
X-ray machines don't usually harm computer equipment, your worst enemy is the metal detector (magnetic fields). To be safe though, I would get them to hand search it, it's your right in any US airport.
I put my Laptop through the X-Ray machine a lot of times when flying... hasn't seemed to hurt my computer at all, but there are still some messages in Japanese which i dont understand ...so who knows! -Flamika
