Serious though can’t they just install a bigger cabinet?

Actually, I usually try to be. Except when confronted with the occasional pious prick.

Or rational human being, just anyone that happens to be around when you've lost your temper because you haven't got what you want?

Sounds about right for someone gurning down the phone to a service rep.

    edit: timing fail..

The problem with these situations is that the cabinet is owned by BT and it is up to them to change or install the cabinets. The ISP has to make do with the space that they are given in a particular cabinet and as such have pretty much zero input on what BT sort out for it.

Just because someone has worse problems, doesn't mean your problems aren't problems. Otherwise why even have this thread

True. I'm saying there's just no need to "read the riot act" to anybody. There is a reasonable way to voice displeasure or concern. Note this is being said without calling anyone a prick.

Well, at least it's confirmed that you made the right decision. Now I'd get the police involved, if for no other reason than to get that incident on record.

I think you've got to consider what the real issue is about why you wanted to poke an obviously angry bear and how important it was to you for you to do so.

Feel for you dude, had one of those stabby stab ones myself years back.

Well she was more a slasher, turned round to see a knife coming down across my face and eye - luckily reacted quick enough to get my wrist bone inbetween said knife and face.

My friends cheered me up by taking me to the pub and playing tracks on the jukebox such as 'Psycho killer' and 'Surprise! Your're dead'. :)

Don't be surprised if you're a bit jumpy for a while, perfectly natural.

I've never had a stabby one, but a few years ago and old ex sent me an email saying only 'impregnate me'. Super gross.

I'm with you on this. Irrespective of whether or not your life will be literally ruined because you can't get broadband at a decent speed, it's p*ss-poor customer service: you ordered a specific service and without any notification you were provided with something inferior. Put it in writing to their complaints people if you have to, and be persistent with it: this is their c**k-up and at the very least someone needs to offer a better explanation than "the system cancelled the OpenReach order".

Being angry because of shoddy service is an understandable reaction (I'd have been fuming myself). As a representative of that company you have to expect that people might be angry now and then; to expect to speak to perfectly calm and rational people all the time is naive because people generally aren't like that. You know what you usually do when you finish speaking to an angry customer? Often you'll just think "what an a**ehole", finish whatever post-call actions you need to do, and move on to the next call; you might bitch to co-workers but you put it behind you, put your "game face" back on, and move on to the next call. I've worked in more than a handful of call centres and I've taken far more than my fair share of calls from angry, ranting customers - you can't take it personally, you can't dwell on it, you'd be a constant ball of stress if you did. There are ways to manage the conversation and resolve the situation without letting an angry caller get your back up or perceive the situation as someone being angry with you personally (that is, assuming that they pay for anything resembling half-decent training).

Being abusive to customer service reps, on the other hand, is completely different to being angry and that's the point it becomes unacceptable (and I've also had more than my fair share of abusive callers).
