Not really, ruining my life but highly annoying me.
I made the mistake of buying a second hand 1070ti on eBay since I wanted a more bells and whistles in games. It arrived all well and good in original box, can't test it straight away due to work shift patterns so have to wait a week. Finally get round to playing some games on it. To my disappointment, the card seems to make a whine noise once anything is running. Fans don't spin above 20% and gpu usage not above 50% in any games I play.

I message seller requesting a return and refund even though they'd listed no returns. Though he claimed the card was in perfect working order, to me it is not, now is declining a return/refund as its not his problem and I must of abused it to figure out the fan speed and usage because he's an 'IT specialist' so he claims that's the only way I'd know. Nothing to do with the fact that their software is advertised on the box etc so ant Tom, Dick or Harry could figure it out.

So currently got to wait another 2 weeks before I can request eBay to step in and sort it for me.

For the record I haven't overclocked or tampered with it. I mean it's a 1070ti been used for 1080p it literally eats these games for breakfast, which was the whole point in getting it, to just have a system that won't break a sweat when playing.

You don't have to be an IT specialist to check fan speeds, you just need to know how to left click a mouse three times to download, install and run any of a dozen programs.

    LMAO 'IT Specialist'.

Edit: AFAIK unfortunately I don't think coil whine isn't defined as a 'fault', not sure on that one.

I guess the it hinges on what is defined as 'perfect working order'. If it runs as it should, graphically, it may be hard to argue that it's not.

    Good luck though.

Yeah coil whine isn't normally considered a fault I think (can't get an RMA for it as far as I'm aware)

Coil whine is also associated with the brand of PSU you use (don't ask me why), some cards will exhibit coil whine with certain PSU's yet not with others - I've had this first hand, I swapped PSU's on a client build and the said GPU was as quiet as a mouse with a Seasonic yet squealed no end with a Corsair unit.

Yea, I contacted Gigabyte but they won't accept a RMA as I'm not original buyer. So can't even get confirmation on if anything is wrong.

EBay will give me a refund in 2 weeks either way. I understand its not considered a fault after googling but it's not something I want to listen to either. I think if I tried to sell it on I'd have same problem so better to get my money back and stick to new or this forum for buying bits rather than the flee market that is eBay.

+1 for that being coil whine - my 1080ti has it and I bought that brand new - it'll be nothing to do with it being second hand. Unfortunately many higher end graphics cards have it and many companies won't replace under RMA for coil whine. If I'm being 100% honest with you, I'd feel sorry for the seller if eBay forces them to refund you which is obviously not what you want to hear.

Sent an engineer to attend a site, engineers are all meant to be vetted for debt, criminal history etc etc as they are working in a bank.

Branch were doing their vault check and had stacks of cash quite safely in the secure area.
Engineer took the opportunity to relieve them of some cash. the cash wodge he choose happened to be the exploding ink one, hes now in hospital after wedging it down the front of his trousers :hehe:. Downside sites now closed as its a "crime scene" so my printer swap outs downed a branch :wallbash:

If only he'd done it nearer to Halloween, he could have been a Smurf or one of those sods from Avatar.

I think this qualifies for the "other" thread . Might be worth punting that story to El Reg for their "On Call" column - they're very careful about anonymity. Although given that it involves a bank and it was a recent thing, it might be a bit soon...

True, I can put the one about when I worked at The Link, the branch alarm system triggered an the phone system was wired in such a way it put all the phone on loud speaker but muted them great way to listen to see if its actually a break in, turned out the manager had let himself in but brought a lady friend an they were making some very adult noises.
