    Hey

    Does anyone offer or know of a delidding service? I remember MaddutchDude used to offer it but think he emigrated out of the UK?

    Looking to delid my 4790k.

    It used to be me, yeah.

    I’d offer to do it, but the risk of customs getting their hands on it just isn’t worth our time. :(

    A kind soul on another forum is going to lend me a DieMate. So just need to find a cheap haswell I can practice on first :0

    Don't really see how you can get it wrong, first chip I delidded was my 7920x, just checked the instructions and away I went.

    The rock-it pro even centres up the ihs when relidding. My 7980x has the replacement all copper ihs and its awesome.

    The DDM2 does that too. It has a great relid tool. :)

    So did my trial run on a celeron today and glad I did!

    Cleaning the old silicon glue off was easy. Just scrape it off with a plastic card and wood bbq skewer. Cleaning the TIM easy. Nail polishing the exposed contacts near the die, easy. Working with the liquid metal, alot harder than it looks. Glad I used tape to create a barrier. Kind of have to treat it like water and push/dab it along. Top tip is to tap the applicator plunger to make it come out in small quantities. Adding the high temp silicon glue (gasket sealer) little dots in each corner just to hold the IHS easy. Now just have wait an hour for it to cure and the test run is done!

    Holy mother of god.....

    Before delid with 150i & kryonaut at max with 4.4Ghz OC at 1.2953 running prime was hitting 89-91c

    Same as above but with Condudctonaut between die and IHS I am getting 65c after a 10 min run. Seems to be a 4c higher diference on core #1 though. Might to do some double checking.

    Will do a longer test and see how we fare.

    That’s about right. One core is typically warmer as it has to deal with Windows instructions and such on top of the load it’s already under.

    Congrats on a successful job! Now you see why we do it and why I offered the service. :D

    Seems to have settled around 62c and 64c on core #1. Noticed a few weird things with the H150i I'll ask over on the Cosair forums.

    Will leave the burn in running. :)

    Turns out there was a BIOS update for the MSI Z97 Xpower AC that contains a CPU microcode update (not Spectre as its 2016/3/08). Bit of investigation reveals amognst others things it can improve the overclock with lower volts.

    Aparently there is another microcode update for Haswell that can improve overclocking further.

    Updated the BIOS from MSI and low and behold can hit 4.4Ghz @ 1.216 rather than 1.2953

    Seems there is another microcode update for Haswell non Spectre related that might improve overclocking even further but its not part of a BIOS update so going to have a thumb through https://www.overclock.net/forum/5-i...microcode-through-software.html#post_26475515

    Aaah looks like it got bundled with the spectre update as Microcode versio 24. Using HWInfo is the easy way to check it. Either way happy with that!

    It’s likely due to improved Vdroop control rather than directly affecting the OC ability. :)

    Yeah that would make sense people talking about 0.02v less per 100mhz clocked.

    I've been able to get past my previous thermal barrier at 4.4Ghz and find myself in 4.8Ghz land. I've been trying to get 4.9Ghz but am struggling. Cooling isnt an issue right now as happily sits around 67-68c. Been about 3 years since I touched all this so memory is a bit rusty.

    I have a couple of goals.

    • Get 4.8Ghz running with the minum amount of volts for 24/7 using ie gaming and light office work. I'm not crunching videos.
    • Get 4.9Ghz/5.0Ghz Fun fun or maybe 24/7 if I get lucky.
    Here are the settings I am using with my MSI Z97 XPower AC using v1.10 BIOS which is the latest along with microcode 24.

    Can anyone offer advice/comment on how to improve and acheive this please?
