Trying to remember what it was, now. 6800, maybe? Ah, yeah: Leadtek WinFast A400GT TDH GeForce 6800 GT AGP. That'll be the puppy. Weighed a damn tonne!
My SR209 workstation from 2004 arrived, and WOW! that "New Box smell" brings back so many memories. I forgot about the great features Chenbro offered! $49.95 Shipped! https://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Flashback Smiles! *overall construction, fit and finish of everything is excellent *120mm exhaust for 2004 was a big deal. *kensington side panel lock *locking front bezel *front bezel quick release latch! *tool-less fan holders *optional hot swap HD bay Flashback Frowns! *No access to back of motherboard. The Top and right sides are ONE panel (non-removable). This may explain the warehouse full of new SR209s from 2004. *No filters. (Recalling why Jim Hanson from Coolcases sold thousands of fan filters during this era) Obviously the smiles outweighed the frowns, but I still haven't decided if I want to do full-on retro gaming pc build or use modern hardware, or cannibalize it's bezel for another "retro-look" project with the Fractal Design S2. In any case it was only $50 for a friday night flashback experience.
Lots of options if you don't mind picking up a power drill and have arsenal of hole saw attachments with an arbor. Easiest to most time consuming air cool mods for the Chenbro SR209 1. Swap to higher CFM 120mm exhaust fan *120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon, https://www.coolerguys.com/products...-series-d1225c12b-1450-1850-2150-and-4250-rpm *Fractal design Venturi HP, https://www.amazon.com/Fractal-Design-Venturi-HP-14-FD-FAN-VENT-HP14-PWM-BK/dp/B00VYEI17U *Corsair SP fans, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181027 2. Add 120mm or 140mm fan to floor, and raise chassis with large feet 3. Add 1 or 2 80/92mm fans to right side panel, toward front, ala Jim Hanson at Coolcases style 4. Add exhaust fan(s) to left access panel (not my fav option, must disconnect fan wires for access) (Note: Your PSU intake fan in the SR209 fan will also help with cooling, as warm air exists thru the PSU as well)
Episode 3 of my Retro Pc Build series! This ep has glimpse of Gareth's system. I'm still collecting your vintage PC photos for a montage in future episode.
yeah, Dennis was an innovator! ..... he's also the first to use clear acrylic water covers on cpu and gpu blocks.. that was a big deal
Loving the trip down memory lane Bill, this is such a good idea ....clearing behind the shed yesterday and just like a rare junkyard find..... Complete with rust ! I can feel a "HP-Restoration" thread coming on .
So tru man, It's sooo damm tempting to dig it out and mod a HP one more time But i have to keep moving forward.... i managed to give up smoking 20+ years ago but giving up the HP's is even harder... Back in 2000 i was hosting a garage lan party and wanted to have some thing cool to show the guys! This was my first case modded computer A side window A real blow hole Cable management! and some green sh!t for i don't know what... 2001 not much of a mod cept blow holes but this was a pretty popular case at the time Around this time i got into burning CD and burning money...... I think between 2000 and 03 Hp 1 emerged about 2003 alloy cases were all the rage! so were nokia phones They said i was crazy in 2003 for owning so many LCD's!!! CRT was the future If you wanted a well cooled GPU you had to do it yourself ! 2004 The old hp case for a face lift.... the rest is history Swiftec used to rule the WC scene back in the day Still couldn't shake the beige Had a brief love affair with some ugly antec case wasnt long after that i went back to some beige and built my first sleeper pc
Hows this for Retro! a mate brought this setup along one of my NFS all night challenge lans back in 2000
Thank you so much guys! I'll have first wave of submitted photos on Monday, I've created Retro Gaming PC Video Playlist
ach i had lot old build pics on ntl/virginmedia ftp. did not realise till now they got rid of it all those pics of mine lost:/ i had one awesome one of my first windowed case next to a mountain made up of empty jolt cola, pepsi and fanta cans
I have NO pictures pre-2007 due to a leaking water block on a graphics card that totally killed my PSU, motherboard and fryed the harddrive. That was before I learned what proper backup was But actually, im currently building an older system, just not that old, more like 2009-2010
