Turns out it was indeed just part of a stupid superbowl beer commercial. FFS.

I guess since it's apparently a charity thing I shouldn't be too mad.

As a Belgian it's pretty funny by the way to see Stella portrayed as some eccentric yet refined drink while here it's just that pretty mediocre beer they brew in Leuven.

    F' you advertising, f' you.

And FWIW, Stella is not a "refined" drink. That kind of marketing is probably deliberate - Stella doesn't exactly have a great reputation, especially in the UK.

Compared to it completion* in the USA, Stella is a premium brew.

    * Yes there are several excellent micro and small breweries in the USA. But these tend to be highly localised and limited distribution compared to the main USA and international breweries.

Indeed. Barman, a pint of wife-beater, if you will.

Sorry, 'Stella Tortoise' is not a good beer. Could be worse, Hooligan Soup, errr Special Brew takes some effort to drink. Slice of beer anyone?
I do remember a friend at university drinking a 4 pack of Special Brew before going out clubbing, she did turn out to have a drink problem...

When I was at Swansea Uni one of the student bars used to do snakebite & black for £1.50 a pint. They used Stella & Strongbow - it was lethal stuff.

Yup, that is a frightening combination. Pretty good value for home mixing though, 4 pack of each and that’s the night done (to say the least...). I used to have it from time to time, don’t like being drunk anymore though, so 1 pint would probably have me done these days.

F* Snakebite, that takes me back. My neighbour and good mate used to really like Becks & Diamond White Snakebites! Made me sick, so gave them a miss.

I remember trying Special Brew decades ago, like similarly strong real ale it is near undrinkable. On the other hand, one of my wife's uncles makes his own cider, using Bramleys from his own tree. That is fiercely strong but, still tastes nice.

You can literally walk into a grocery store in most states and come out with a shopping cart of craft beer, heck even some gas stations have a decent selection.

Some strong ciders are really nice, had 7.5% ones that were awesome but they are usually the single bottle quality stuff, drop down into the white lightning area and then your just drinking what taste's like really bad white wine that didn't get through scrutiny :(

I wasn't trying to say that craft/small/micro brewery beer is hard to get, just that they are a small portion of the US beer market. According to America's Beer Distributors, the market share in the US (2017) is Anheuser Busch 42%, MillerCoors 29%, and 29% is everyone else. That means that less than 1 in three beers in the store have the potential of being better than a Stella. This is being generous, as the remain 29% is more than just craft beer and there are lots of bad craft beer on the market. You may disagree with me, taste is very personable, and clearly a large portion of the US disagrees with me otherwise, Anhesuer Busch wouldn't have the market share that they do.
