News Microsoft launches Edge Insider programme

This is great news even though I don't use Edge or Windows.

My browser of choice is qutebrowser which also uses QTWebEngine/Blink. Less fragmentation when it comes to rendering back-ends can only be a good thing.

 

Not really. The ideal browser backend is standard-compliant and interchangeable with any other backend. If one backened becomes dominant, it can do whatever proprietary stuff it wants, and other browsers will either have ti comply or will show websites incorrectly, e.g. the dark days of IE dominance. You can see this creeping in with AMP already.
