I'm the same as you, although a few years older but I'm taking a different view. I'm not interested in raiding at all now and I want to play casually, enjoying the original story and quest lines. Yeah, I'll do a few PUG dungeons for a chance on better gear but i'm not in it for endgame raids. This way, I can pick it up and put it down as required.
I hear you. I'm just not sure it's possible to play it casually. At least - not for me. But I'd so like to dive back in and try it again. We'll see.. I might just wait a few months.
I can definitely pick it up and put it down. I've done it with other MMOs since WoW. As long as I'm in the mindset of enjoying and experiencing all the content the devs have included, it becomes a marathon, not a sprint to endgame. It took me years and years to explore all the areas in FFXIV but I got there in the end. Did a bit of endgame stuff but nothing serious.
I tend to pick medium population servers at launch. High pops are too much of a grind and the auction economy tends to be stupid until it settles down.
I remote desktoped into my computer from work at midday to bypass the 6 hour queue. My membership ran out at 18:00 and I got back at 18:10. These waiting times to get on server ..... Only had chance to start playing tonight. Logged at 4.30pm and still 200 minutes remaining in queue . Started at 188 minutes and just went up!! Excitement destroyed.
Well im down to 4632 in queue ... says 11 minutes. A tad optimistic if you ask me. They need to sort this out.
Well people did want the classic WoW experience... flaky, overloaded, servers were part and parcel of early WoW.
I give up in the end. I think 3 hours is enough for me. Takes the piss. I changed server just to see them all full. Started on another that has 'High' population rather than full .... 17000 in the queue. I know its only day 2 but people are paying good money for this. I just hope they sort it by the weekend. I really want to binge on this for a while.
Still undecided if I want to pay another visit to WoW to revisit how it was in the old days... part of me thinks I'll enjoy casually going through it all again, but then another part of me feels like without the fun of discovering new things it won't give enough to keep the motivation up.

Well im playing for myself right now and im actually loving it. Ill level at my own pace and enjoy what im doing and not worry about the end game after 5 days!! Not been this happy playing WOW since .... a long long time ago!!
38 priest on migraine or however you spell it. First few days queues were crazy but things have settled. Still hit the queue now and then not to different from my vanilla experience. It's fun, groups randomly forming to help each other with quests or anti ganking. Even stv PvP has been fun! Personally while I'm in a raid guild I'm a social so have not intent on raiding. For me it's about the 1-60 journey and I haven't had this much fun in a long time while gaming, you could in fact say it's been 15 years! I really wish I had jumped on the pserver bandwagon!
Noted, never actually followed the story. It's a case of shield, mb,swp,mf,mf,mf, wand, tab and repeat!
