Ah yes, I see you've been paying attention to the economics of the entire movie industry for the better part of the last decade.

Due to competition from phones, gaming, streaming services, or even the likes of youtube, drawing the eye Hollywood has, in the past decade or so, become the medium of spectacle and all the expense that comes with it. With those budgets, they're increasingly risk-averse. That's why there are now 11 Star Wars movies, 8 Fast & Furious movies, and a million billion Marvel movies. While the franchise model existed prior to that, Hollywood is now almost exclusively defined by it. It's all about the teats of a name brand cash cows, which made me wonder why you'd even bother to post such a redundant comment

Must be why film are getting re-made, ad nauseum... no-one has any fresh ideas, any more.

Milking a franchise cash-cow would make sense if it was the same production team/studio... e.g.: Disney needed to get back the money they spent buying the Star Wars™ franchise, some how, but why they even bought it is beyond me... I, for one, will never watch any Star Wars, post Ep.VI.

Some franchises' films will continue to be made until there's a definitive halt called to said franchise by it's controllers; MCU films have a production arc despite Stan Lee's passing, but at some point, there will probably be remakes made with gender swapped main characters... with (for me) debateable success.

I did it on purpose, just to see what kind of pious tripe you'd blow out of your hole this time.

Not sure of the accuracy of this but I've heard that prior to Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, most of Hollywood considered sequels as inferior and a cash grab by a studio. They only exists dues to studios commissioning the squeal and struggling actors, directors, etc looking for a break. Now squeals and trilogies can been seen as a medium for creating and telling a larger arc. While still being a massive cash grab, which is Hollywood's first and foremost priority, art and story are a happy by product.
