There is no 'Startup' option [any more] there is only 'prove you're a student' or 'pay us £240/yr'. EDIT: Because of course Autodesk have buried it somewhere else, as a technically seperate product... can't possibly mention there's 'Fusion 360 for Hobbyists' ANYWHERE on the main F360 product or 'our products' pages can they... ****ers.
Here it is for anyone else who might want it... not like Autodesk are making any effort to highlight its existence on their website.
Shamelessly ripped the idea from another YT channel... The same mod/build/concept, but at 3 price points/skill levels... Cheap version, possibly using an off-the shelf solution/kit. Intermediate version - probably the normal non-cheap/lazy way of doing it. Uber version - Bells, whistles, fancy tools, taking everything to 11.
Conveniently enough we’ve got something on the way that should sort of fit into that layout. Won’t have the Uber version to it but then if it did, I wouldn’t use pretty much any of it normally so eh.
What I don't get with software like this is that it's assumed you're only using it for income/profit generation... doesn't anything like this come supplied with 3D printers, CNC routers, etc...? Have we got to the stage where anything to do with personal creativity has a 'premium' attached to it... thankfully, power-drills don't need software to use them, or they'd be added to the 'you must be using it for business purposes' category.
Sorry but you have it the wrong way round. Fusion is essentially a business CAD package that has instead been opened up to enthusiasts, it's amazing that it offers what it does for free at all. And yes, versions of some softwares do come bundled with those tools.
I get that any CAD/CAM would have it's roots in the industrial/commercial sector & have filtered down, but even in the link to the hobbyist version above, it's on the user to prove that they aren't 'earning' from the version offered - isn't there a (better?) way to limit the functionality of software to more readily restrict this? Are there features within Fusion that are obviously 'industrial' that can be locked behind a paywall (project size, etc)...?
Yes there are quite a few features like advanced multi axis cam and generative design that are behind a pay wall. This solution’s better though for everything else, you don’t have to do a thing unless Autodesk decides to audit you, which is very unlikely unless you’re actually making money from it.
It's fewer hoops than you usually have to jump through for 'educational'/student licenses... The fact Autodesk are more less willing to just take your word for it that you're not profiting [or profiting to the tune of less than £100k iirc] is quite generous on their part, as is the fact that comparatively few of the toys are locked away. They could've made the process a lot harder than they have and/or locked more of the stuff behind a paywall than they did.
