BT were lucky I only recently paid a line rental saver, so staying worked out cheaper, though I did get a further £16 per month off my previous offer!

Managed to get my head round XL=2TTfL (Inductance/Reactance XL= 2*3.142*f*L) frequency & Henry's usually given in question but formula can be changed round if they decide they want Henrys. Then also Capacitance XC=1/2*3.142*f*C (Capacitance = 1/ ....) this one being a bit more complicated as you usually end up having to convert uF, nF Capacitors into -6 & -9 etc

I struggled last year getting my head around basic Ohms law with resistors parallel especially. Had a great start to my Level 3 Electrical though picking this stuff up last week and today in Principles of Electrotechnology. Our lecturer this year is the course leader who has an engineering background instead of maths like our lecturer last year. So when he is teaching he knows the various shortcuts etc to make the formula a lot easier and we have a laugh with it.

Think this is going to be a great final year

That was exactly the problem I had during the maths section of my electrical and electronic engineering degree. The maths that we went through was taught by pure mathematicians rather than anyone with a practical engineering background, as such it had little relevance to a room full of mechanical and electrical engineering students. We would start off with a long equation and 3 hours later end up with something that didn't look much different, but was somehow "solved". There was no application based material at all and the resits at the end of the first year were almost as full as the previous exam...

Now, having dragged myself through that year and a half of pure maths, graduated, and been working for 12 years since, I can't recall using much of anything that we went through. I now work as an engineer designing high voltage earthing and lightning protection systems (including surge protection) and pretty much everything has been just MASSIVE amounts of Ohm's law as well as a good bit of parallel/series resistance. Everything more complicated is all software based now. I mean it still helps to know what's going on, but still.

This was all to do with EMF from generators creating essentially magnetic push back (Inductance & Reactance) which in turn puts the sine wave 90 degrees out of phase (lag) so Capacitance is used to feed back in a small amount to keep the current where it should be pushing the sine wave out again but this time 90 degrees positive (leads). It was quite fascinating how this is managed electronically and apparently there will be questions on this in the final exam which is written so need to know those formulas.

The guy that did our principles last year is doing inspection and test this year, he is a really good lecturer given I did manage a distinction last year in Principles even though I struggles with the maths. We have also started our design module looking at the project already which you do in groups which is a percentage of the exam.

It's more weird than awesome, but.

My work laptop is a G6 zbook with more ram than I know what to do with. Which cost more than all my laptops over eight years at my last place.

I once bought a box of four LED candle bulbs from ScrewFix, the guy on the counter said:

    "Four candles"

    What a lad :hehe:
