Yes, that was awesome. That kid is gonna do well - kudos to his parents for supporting him too.

 

It's ace to see kids falling in love with technology.

It also brought back some happy memories. I've been to Rutgers a few times as my ex wife #1's uncle was a professor there in marine biology.

There's a big chance he would have used that in some shape or form.

 

There's a lack of mainframe expertise out there but a lot of really critical stuff still relies on them. Banks in particular are a sore spot: the people who originally wrote the software for these systems are either quite literally dead, dying, or retiring, and very few people are taking their place. These decades-old systems are among the main reasons that we've had some really high-profile IT issues at banks in recent years, and that stuff has a serious impact on people's lives: people haven't been able to pay their bills or access their money.

To have bought and set up an IBM mainframe in your spare time is a hell of an achievement!

 

Not enough that he buys the stuff, but has some clue how the stuff works, too (at his age)...!

Well tbf them beating Ireland was a little bit of a surprise, I thought Ireland might just scrape a win.
