After coming back from a LAN party, I noticed a small scratch on my monitor. I wouldnt care so much if it was on the case, but this scratch is on the glass part. It isn't that bad, but sometimes if the light hits it a certain way, it can be annoying. So, have any of you had to fix a scratch on your monitor glass? If so, how did you do it?

And if it's not possible... I won't feel so guilty about modding it :D

If I go by my jewelry experience…the answer is yes/no. Yes you can get it out & No because it will leave a distortion on the overall image you look at.

ill have to go with bluebark on this one, once you remove more glass to correct the scratch it will distort the image, unless you remove the same amount of glass from the whole monitor which would be very hard to do and probably wont work

Couldn't you replace the glass panel or something?

Isn't there some protective glass in front of the actual tube?

That depends…the older flat panels had flat non glare glass in front of the tube…now they are just flat faced tubs.

Bluebark, did you polish the scratch walls and then fill the scratch with an optical cement then polish and buff it till it was even? I've never done anything like that but it seems if the refractive properties of the optical cement were close to the glass, and then the fill was polished till smooth and even, the distortion should be minimal.

Won’t work…Jewelers epoxy would magnify the scratch.

Kinda a whacky thought. Windsheild repair techs use optically clear resins for scratch and crack repair, cerium oxide as well. Some resin called diamond clear. Don't know if you can buy it anywhere.

Well anyway, see if you can get a windsheild repair place to quote you a monitor scratch repair job, or find a DIY repair kit.

That displex stuff looks promising.. But would it interfere with the "antiglare" stuff on the monitor??
