    How many games are they going to name "Mercenaries", anyways? Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries, Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries... someone buy them a thesaurus!

    Being mercenary opens a lot of possibilities and is appropriate for a battletech universe game.
    Would you prefer to be a mechawarrior tied to a regiment of one great house?

    I mean, that's what MechWarrior 2 was, and I absolutely loved that. (MW2 with the Glide renderer on a 3DFX Voodoo card? Bliss.)

    I'll take whatever option results in the total destruction of what remains of Harmony Gold. Their threads of spurious lawsuits have blocked worldwide Macross licensing for too long.

    Shockingly the Mechwarrior: Mercenaries games are all about the Mercenaries in the Battletech universe.

    The Mercs games are a more open ended spin off to the very linear main games that follow a single faction (or both sides of one conflict in Mechwarrior 2) along a linear story. Piranha obviously know their market since they've stuck with the naming convention. I hope it's a success and they add in a 'proper' Mechwarrior 5 as an expansion.

    I would love a game set in the initial Clan Invasion. Although balancing it would be quite hard if they stick to the fluff, single 75ton Clan Mechs being able to outrun mediums whilst also being a fair fight against entire Lances of Inner Sphere Assaults. Would be fun to play as the Clans, then play again as the Inners during their fight back.
    In 2021 all of their licenses expire, renewal is about as likely as an England World Cup win after HG took Tatsunoku to court in 2016 to prevent Tatsunoku from taking the Macross licensing deal away from them early.

    I had the Ati 3D Rage version with all the extra shinies like camoflague patterns on the mech, readable unit markings and textured sky boxes. Plus support for 1280x800 for those players really pushing the limits of what's possible!

    Why everyone is so pissed at Harmony Gold: Tatsunoko don't have the rights that Harmony Gold claim to have acquired from them.
    Big West v. Tatsunoko in 2003 (and the following failed Tatsunoko v. Big West) resulted in Tatsunoko having only the rights to distribute the first Macross TV series as a TV series, and all other rights (all other series/movies, the Macross name, the characters, the mechanical designs, derivatives like toys, etc) reverting to Big West/Studio Nue. Even the subsequent Tatsunoko v. Bandai resulted in Tatsunoko getting the smackdown.
    All Harmonoy Gold's threats against others using the Macross mech designs are based on a license they do not have.
