Hey Zap, one last thing, what size MIP barb adapter did you use? Because either I'm using too large of a PVC compression pipe, a rod that's too thick, or a combination of the two. I've narrowed it down to that because none of the hardware stores around have anything bigger than 5/8" x 3/4" MIP. Right now I'm using a 1/2"-13-3ft threaded rod and 1" PVC's... also, from the measurements I've given, do you think the parts I have are too large? Because if they're fine then i'll order a couple MIP's online that are larger. One final question... what tool did you use to cut the metal parts? Thanks for your feedback and keep up the great work, -Mike
neodvl, I am really not too sure, as I just put the stuff together as I was at the store. Yes, I got some weird looks connecting pipes with rods
haha, yeah I know what you mean by the weird looks Also, what did you use to cut the metal? A dremel with some sort of metal cutting attachment? Thanks, -Mike
I did all the metal cutting with cutting wheels. The plastic handles were cut with a normal drill bit.
hey very nice zap. Im thinking of making my self one for my grade 10 social at the end of the year just wondered when ordering el wire by the foot of elwirecheap, what sort of conections are on the end? and how hard is it to connect it to the invertor? never used el wire so im not to familar. also...WHEN DO WE SEE VERSION 3.0a
2 year old thread... BUT.. Wouldn't mind seeing the pictures...Zap, mind putting them up on your site again? Regards,
yeah sorry bout that only just realised how old the thread was as i had searched for it after seeing it on www.zapwizzard.com
Correction http://www.zapwizard.com/ Wouldnt mind seeing the pics as well actually. May build one and go hit some star wars geeks queuing to see the new film as it would be pretty funny.
The images have been restored. Glad to see people still building them. I want to build a Version 3.0 for this year's halloween. (Probably last one you can dress Star-Wars for a reason) I really want to build a more authentic version, and even better lighting (LEDs), but I don't have time.
That would be quite simple to do. You could install the LED into the base then use sideglow fiber optic cable strung inside a polycarbonate tube. Not only would the unit be much lighter, but it would still be quite sturdy. You also wouldn't be limited in the length of the "blade" since the cable is pretty cheap and emits as uniformly as el-wire.
Necromansing this ultra cool thread to say: How about 7 strands of sideglow fibre (one in the middle, six around, try it with round coins you'll see what I mean) in a copper pipe collar, mounted on the luxeon star, and then the strands all helixed around the metal centre core as per the last two designs? A heavier sabre such as the current version makes for better balence and its something i'd rather keep in the car for breakdown. I think that used correctly it could scare the seven shades out of a carjacker
should check out saberology.com and the fromtheshadows dot tv episode showing the innards of it, basically realllly bright led's and custom made handles
The ones at Master Replica's uses 64 LEDs, according to the popular science magazine I just read. I went to a mid-night screening of EP3, I forgot my light saber though There were about 10 people with cheap rip-off sabers. But two had commercial units. One was blue and VERY bright, but the instant the guy hit another guys saber about 4 inches of his saber went dark.
