I think it's a fair guess to say that over 80% of people vote for one party or the other out of "self-interest"

Surely that's why people vote- to have their say

I refused to vote for Labour because someone had two left shoes on on voting day... that did it for me.. I couldn't vote blue fast enough tbh...
because I strongly disagree with 2 left shoes on voting day. It was, for me... "self-interest" as I was worried than one day my children would be forced to wear two left shoes too.

    Cant have that... just can't

I do hope that some people vote for other people's interest and at their own expense.. but I think it will be few.. and I allowed 20% for that ;) in the above post.

Well, I would have (but, you know, EU immigrant so I couldn't). My wife did. Together we are just in that £80,000,-- plus a year, 5% income bracket. Under Labour's plans we would have had to pay all of £2,50 a month more in tax. If that means the return of Sure Start and fewer people having to go to food banks, sign me the hell up. Charge me double. In fact charge me tenfold. I'll pay £25,-- a month extra. No problemo. In fact I'll double it again: £50,--. How does £600,-- a year grab you? Wait, I'll double it again: £100,-- a month; you can have £1200,-- a year from us in extra tax. For a fairer society? Bargain.

But, you know, people voted for high-earners like us to pay less tax. That works for me, too. Wouldn't want to object; Will of the People™ and all that.

Most of the people who seem to rail against high earner tax rates and inheritence tax aren't affected by either... but are convinced one day the might be...

Diane Abbott's connection to the Labour party really puts me off them. Like, she's said some batshit stuff in her time and after the fiasco of the last election she needed to go. But instead she's in the forefront, wearing two left shoes.

She has good qualifications but it would seem her brain has addled.

It reminds me of all those years Jacqui Smith was home secretary.

The two left shoes was fake news. But yes, compared to the woman she once was --her speech on civil liberties, in the debate on the Counter-Terrorism Bill 2008 won The Spectator "Parliamentary Speech of the Year" award, and further recognition at the 2008 Human Rights awards-- I do think: "WTF happened?!?"

Ah, my wife told me about it and I didn't apply a filter.

But yes, she's really gone to pot and needs to be put out to pasture.

Edit: I've just had a cursory check and the two left shoes thing appears to indeed be legit.

On election night when the exit poll came in I relised how many people hated Jeremy Corbyn enough to vote torries.

people are sick of brexit and if voting for torries moves it forward I think it’s a risk a lot are willing to take

my Labour mp has a 12k majority, so what I vote for is so pointless

till we get a new way of voting so every vote does count then I can’t see labour ever been in power again

brexit should of been finished by now already, people need to move on, I said to a friend the other day I voted remain but would vote leave in any second referendum out of principle that we should not have 100 referendums

So... who do you reckon for LD and Labour Leaders?

On both fronts a lot depends on 'who's left' as much as 'who'd be best'.

...and whether either party can learn from their mistakes [I'm going with 'no'].

There is absolutely no way in hell that Brexit could have been finished by now, nor indeed will be finished for years to come. The WA is just the first step on a long, hard road lasting years.

Buckle up, and carry lunch and an empty bottle to piss in. This will be a longcat-is-long ride.

Reminds me of my joke solution to Brexit from ages ago that the remain voting NI, Scotland and London should just join Ireland.

Yeah, give it ten years and it may get finished. Seriously.

As for a second referendum, the last one wasn't even the first.
