It's basically a pre amp but has a decoder and DAC etc.

So instead of using an integrated receiver you use this, and then amps.

It does 7.1 but I just want to be able to control my front speakers and sub (powered). There's no room in my flat for rear speakers and the other amp, so I'm using those in my bedroom.

It just gives me total control over volumes in short, and has features to control the sound of annoying movies with really loud music and effects and non audible speech.

It's about 15 years old but in perfect condition and complete and boxed. And it cost about the same as a very basic method of controlling the sound, so that I can game and watch TV at night without making the building vibrate.

Dad needed a new GPU so as I am a good son, I gave him my 1080Ti and got an upgrade for myself.

We bought the same one (in graphite) 18 months ago. Very happy with it.

£70 on top of the Specsavers voucher I got from the in-laws at Christmas on a pair of new glasses, anti-reflective coating and a second (free) pair of prescription sunglasses for driving. First time i've been to the opticians since 2012 - they were very impressed by the fact my prescription has barely changed in all that time!

Oh, and just under £100 on a new car battery. Hopefully this plugs in and the car starts, or there's gonna be a much more expensive type of battery going on...

Reminds me, I have to make an appointment for an eye test. I'm needing these cheap reading glasses more and more - think I might need to take the plunge and get some proper glasses.

A friendly public service announcement: even if you have perfect vision, it's worth getting your eyes tested every couple of years (which is free in Scotland, although not elsewhere in the UK unless you meet certain criteria), as eye tests can help diagnose a number of medical conditions (including diabetes and high blood pressure).

If not in Scotland, try asking your employer if they're part of an eye test voucher scheme, like mine are.

Several of the large chain Opticians will hand out free sight tests ad nauseum. Just remember to take your skeptical face along for when they inevitably tell you you NEED new glasses right there and then, although YMMV depending on how good your local branch is.

Nothing exciting, just 4th Year Uni admission (which, for some reason, costs twice as much as third year)

I had a mosiso case on my MacBook. It was great, looked like an old school satchel :)

It's impossible to tell from the photo which model this is, but if you need to use this on a 4K display then just double-check whether it supports 4K@60Hz. I was looking for one of these things about a year and a half ago, and all the plain USB-C hubs which supported 4K video only supported 4K@30Hz. From what I could tell, I needed a Thunderbolt port replicator rather than a USB-C hub and that got expensive very quickly. The good thing though is that Thunderbolt Type-C to DisplayPort cables are dirt cheap, if your MacBook can spare the ports :thumb:.

Thank you for the tip! Your right I believe it only supports hdmi at 60Hz anyway to check though the mac?
