i'm going to be starting my latest project in the new year and need to get as much down as possible. is there any reason why i should stick to putting my cd drives horezontaly. It would make life easier and the design would work better if they where vertical for this case. eg. PS. do you know any good slot loading DVD and CDRW Drives
You'll have to check your optical drives have the little ridges around the CD tray to hold it upright (I haven't seen one that doesn't in almost 6 years), but other than that, I can see no problem what so ever. As for slot loading drives, I think most people use the Pioneer A106(?), I know it's pioneer anyway.
A good slot loading DVD/CD-RW combo drive is the Panasonic CW-8122-BPN laptop drive (use an adapter to fit to standard IDE). You can buy it :here:. Find a review :here:.
Why? Seriously.. aside from 1 time copy of large files I don't see the advantage. Maybe software instllas go fractionally faster.. but can't be by much. If we were talking about a burner I'd understand it more.
i was also thinking about this. i just got a hold of a compaq black bezel 24x cd drive ultra thin laptop for only £6 including p+p from a thinkpad w00t!
Hands down go with the Pioneer 160s. Its superbly stable and you won't need any adapters or anything for it.
Your best bet is to buy an old laptop, i was offered one for about £30, could have used the CD, Hard drive, floppy and keyboard but i couldnt be bothered doing the mod in the end. ...
