Hey all, The answer will (most likely) be what I don't want, but here goes: I have a Z270 motherboard with 2x8gb sticks of Patriot Viper running XMS 3600mhz (probably overkill for an i5 7600k but hey, it was one click of the mouse to achieve and these were on offer at a very reasonable price, so I'll take it). So the reason I have these is that I hear Ryzen4 will, like all Ryzen CPU's (I assume?) enjoy wider bandwidth and I am currently saving for that upgrade when it's released. Question is I am doing more 'stuff' on my pc now than I once did (beyond gaming) so thinking 32GB could be of benefit - if I buy another 2x8GB of the same ram, what are the odds of achieving the XMS of 3600mhz? On the Intel set-up for now, not knowing if Ryzen4 will need a new socket, anyone got an R3 3700X using 4x8gb at 3600mhz? Thanks in advance and soz for the question, I'm assuming the answer will be get 2x16gb instead, but hoping I can just add to what I have with XMS profile F-T-W .
To early to know and there's to many variables, people do run four sticks at 3600Mhz without problems but there's no guarantee because if your current RAM has really tight XMP timings you may need to tweak things a little. Personally I'd wait until more is known later in the year as Zen 3/Ryzen 4000 are expected to still used AM4 and DDR4 but nobody knows for sure, it's also possible they'll support higher DDR4 speeds so running four sticks of 3600Mhz could be a breeze whereas currently Zen2/Ryzen 3000 tops out at around 3600Mhz.
I thought it was obvious, but realise I should of been more prescriptive, I have a 7600K on a Z270 now with 2x8gb of 3600mhz Patriot Viper ram running XMP setting on that, was looking to see if anyone had any experience running 4x8gb on that setup (or similar) and if XMP settings 3600mhz would remain probable for 4 sticks1 (mileage varying of course I understand that, but mitigating a blind risk if I could),. The 2nd part was (in my mind 'of course' obvious) in regard to next iteration of Ryzen, which would be Ryzen4, specifically, I'll be going for whatever the Ryzen 7 3700X ends up being called in that generation (most likely Ryzen 7 4700X). I am of a fairly strong gut feeling it will remain DDR4 (at least on first releases with a transition to DDR5 half way through it's life cycle at the earliest). As this will be my chosen upgrade path - I was also curious about how the current R7 3700X reacts to 4 sticks of ram at 3600mhz (is it most likely, probable to achieve through XMP?) as we (or I) can only assume the next iterations will be similar in reaction to 4 sticks (understanding that if a Ryzen7 3700 or 3800X can or can't handle 4 sticks at 3600mhz, that will likely carry over into 4th gen products. If R7 3700X or 3800X does allow XMP 3600mhz on 4 sticks of ram, then I'd feel more comfortable investing now for this Intel rig feeling I can probably use them in my Ryzen7 4700X build later). Hope this clarifies sufficiently, but please let me know if more info required - I look forward to your recommendations and/or experiences. I generally stick to Asus motherboards (high mid range) if that helps, current board to ROG Z270F. To those that have provided advice thus far, thank you - keep it coming
What 3600mhz Patriot Viper is it anyhow? Is it the CL17 or 15 sticks that you have now, the steel, blackouts, RGB, the fours? Not that it should matter, just interested really.

I ran 4x 4gb sticks at 3000mhz on a Ryzen 7 2700x and ran in to stability issues. Went to 2x 8g 3000mhz sticks and I still have a few issues but not as many, personally I think the 2700x was not healthy when I bought it on ebay. Wasn't there a thread recently about running 4 sticks offering extra performance?
Main question is, do you really need 32GB ? But to answer, yes is possible, I found it almost easy with Samsung b-die and Micron Rev E, your kit seems CJR, I never tried a 4x sticks of them, if you really need 32GB you have to be careful to buy a kit with the same IC, or mixing might be very painful, in this case my advice is to sell your kit and go with a 2x16GB like the Ballistix 3600 Dual Rank, cheap and with great OC potential
