I'm a chap who watches a lot of YouTube, and the ads are a touch irritating so I thought I might sign up to this, but it seems they've priced it at £12 / month. Is anyone actually paying that? I'd have maybe stretched to a fiver, maybe. But Netflix is £6, Amazon Prime with all its films and the like is £8, and YouTube want £12 to remove the ads, provide a tiny amount of premium content, and maybe play in the background? I just can't understand their business model. Not quite sure what this thread is intended to achieve. I'm just so perplexed by it.
Yeah, nah, not paying that. I also can't work the pricing. But thanks for clearing that up, i wondered what had happened to being able to play YT in the background or on a locked screen - should have figured it went behind a paywall.
I also watch a lot on there and as annoying as they can be, particularly if I'm trying to listen to a playlist while playing a game and I have to keep alt tabing in and out, there's no chance in hell I'd pay that. For just removing adds I might pay £3/m. But £12!
I use the Android app unfortunately. Does adblock plus remove the ads that play before (and sometimes during) the video?
I got a 4 month trial of Premium a few months back, and I must say it does make the platform much more bearable. But will I be paying for it when the promotional period ends? Not at that price, no. Maybe a fiver a month.
I mean i know nothing but i reckon there'd be more than 6 people who would pay £2 to every 1 that pays £12 a month. Make it cheaper and they may make more cash. Edit: but yeah, i'm too tight, i wouldn't
I suppose that unlike other streaming services, due to the vast breadth of it, there are people who get almost all of their content from Youtube. That includes using it as a Spotify equivalent too. I that case the £12 a month might make sense.
I used it briefly last year when I wanted to be able to listen to music whilst trying to do a year's worth of gardening in a week (don't ask). I agree with the OP. If it were £5 a month I'd be all over it. It's nice to be able to have uninterrupted music playing, as well as riddance of that effing annoying 'feature' where it asks you if you're still watching.
Same..... would never pay to use youtube. Im mortified at how many ads appear on webpages if I turn it off by accident... I also now run a Pi-hole on my network to get rid of everything I can. install fbpurity in firefox to get rid of ads there and I have a relatively ad free web experience.
Hmm. How to keep it short? 1) I used to work down in Bristol, so wasn't home during the week. 2) At weekends, I was either doing something or too tired to think about gardening. 3) Didn't even bother cutting the grass for over a year. I hate gardening, but like having a garden. 4) Back and front gardens turned into jungles. 5) Changed jobs, but got put on GARDENING LEAVE!!! 6) Went travelling and visiting friends. 7) Came back and realised just how bad I'd let things slide. 8) It took 3 days just to cut the grass back down from over waist height, I found a toad. 9) Needed music and a LOT of cider to give me the motivation to keep going. That's about it. I have two New Year's resolutions: 1) Bloody well keep the garden in check. 2) Be a little more house proud.
i breifly payed for it to watch the awesome cobra kai series. ads are crap i can live with the odd ad that plays before a video but you can combat the pop-ip ads via pi-hole which does a decent job of it and runs off a pizero fine
I use the Indian VPN trick to get Youtube Premium family for £2 a month - details here: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/20...youtube-premium-membership-vpn-needed-3282433 (ignore that it's "expired") Edit: I also use Turkish Netflix, the UltraHD package is costing me £5.50 a month. I used to do the same for Spotify Family (Phillipines) but this is no longer possible.
Using ublock origin for desktop and YouTube Vanced for Android, not seeing any ads. Background play also works with Vanced. A neat trick for Chrome is to right click twice on a video for the option to play video it an overlay on to of everything else.
Apologies for raising this thread from the dead. YT premium is like £2 a month for Indian subscribers. Might I suggest a VPN?
