I have been using 2 pretty old monitors for eons, dell 2405fpw and hp zr30w on both most games i am fine but certain ones like the first 2 metro games and the dishonered (which have started to play again )series give me motion sickness, i dont vomit or anything but do feel it. other games halo/gears 5, racing games doom 2016 etc zero problems. even VR games i dont feel it like boneworks and alyx. would a gaming monitor with high refresh rate make a difference?

This is possibly a field of view issue. It seems Metro last light has a narrow FOV. So if there is a slider try and widen it out. Alternatively try narrowing it in games you don't feel it in and see if you then do.
