I've got used to modding Skyrim and FO4 to photorealistic-ish, think it would irk me. Maybe.

Why is there not a chin-stroking-ponder emojii?

This. Crysis was a good game, right up until the god-awful floaty/swimmy alien ship level. Then it got a bit better afterwards and turned to sh!t again for the finale. Running around the jungle killing the enemy soldiers was plenty of fun.

It was Far Cry all over again - turned to sh!t when the monsters showed up.

Well as far as the Neon Noir demo goes I don't care what they did, the result is pure eye candy. So in this case? I don't care what very clever tricks they use to get it there. If it looks anything like that demo it's going to be mind blowing.

With FONV I would agree. Don't play it now. It looks like hot arse.

However, FO3 with 4k on the Xbox was more than acceptable. As soon as you feel the game you'll be in. It has soul, something FONV and FO4 just don't have.

I remember chatting to Rich (bindi) about it years ago. On face value I immediately thought "Holy crap FONV is so much better !" and it has lots of content. However, once all of that content is over it's finished. The same goes for FO4. As soon as you finish the last quest you find that's it.

With FO3 you can be wandering along and think "Hey, I wonder what's in that building". From there you can end up just exploring one building for hours upon hours. Only to realise you can't remember your way out. That is how deep it draws you in. The issue with FO4 and FONV is the exploration out of the game world is very shallow. In the case of New Vegas it's easily understood. Obsidian simply didn't have the years that Bethesda did. If you don't dive deep you won't notice, but if you do? you'll find nearly all of the interesting looking buildings and structures are boarded up. Which is the same sort of thing you get from FO4.

It's very, very easy to tell how much effort went into all three of those games, and the clear winner by a country mile is FO3. The amount it has is simply staggering. Even now I still find new stuff.

That was their coming of age IMO. And from that moment on for me at least it's not improved much. I did play through Skyrim but it's not my sort of game at all. However, now they've reached "Maximum Ego" their games are a shell of what they once were. They've made it, they don't have to care or have passion now.

Still not played HL Alyx (saving it for a rainy day now, weather has been cracking) but I am hoping Valve haven't fallen into the same hole. That's not what I hear, so I am at least hopeful. But yeah, Bethesda have quickly turned into a "In out, in out, wipe it on a teatowel" cash machine.

more blarb, its out this summer.

Following Crysis Remastered's sudden appearance on Crytek's official website earlier today, the developer has now shared more in the way of specifics, alongside a "summer" launch window on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch.

According to Crytek, the enhanced version of its acclaimed first-person sci-fi shooter will focus on the original's single-player campaign (Crysis' multiplayer mode shut down in 2018 and doesn't appear to be returning) and will feature remastered graphics and "optimisations".

More specifically Crysis Remastered - which is being co-developed by World War Z studio and porting specialist Saber Interactive - will include "high-quality textures and improved art assets, an HD texture pack, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, state-of-the-art depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, and parallax occlusion mapping".

Particle effects will be added "where applicable", and there's also talk of volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections.

Exactly none of that is show in the teaser trailer accompanying Crytek's official announcement, but hopefully we'll get some proper eye-candy soon.

Isn't World War Z the one where it was a renaming of a really shoddy game that was a knockoff of the ARMA 3 mod DayZ?

Brilliant video brimming with facts. It also shows some footage of a demo using what is pretty much the islands of Crysis.

Yeah it kinda sucks, but the video I posted should give you a very good idea.

It was spotted that there are "Games" in it. IE not singular, (well spotted, Rich) so it could include Warhead also. From the very short footage it is assumed it already has RT in place (look at the visor) and for a rough idea of what it could look like there is plenty of footage and evidence in the video also. The hummingbird scene is incredible.

Then you either can't see it or don't know how to look. I mean it looks "similar" because it's going to be the same world. But the textures, lighting, detail and so on are miles beyond the original.

Can I just throw this out there? I tried to play Crysis again recently and for the sake of balance, I forbade myself from switching to cloak at all. I wanted to play it like an unforgiving, Rambo type gig.

It's impossible. Like actually impossible. People saying they play it gung-ho, how are you doing that? Because the AI can see through foliage, can nail full auto fire onto a playing card from 800m away, and are telepathic so that once any one knows your location, the rest magically know your exact spot, even 500m away inside a thick bush, even when you killed the guy who spotted you immediately.

It ruined the immersion for me. And it's not me having shovels for hands - my last game before this was the MW2019 campaign, which I did on max difficulty without any problems. I still got it. But Crysis was just clearly balanced around the suit's abilities at the cost of realism.

people cheat and modify the suits abilities via the ini. Crysis and MW are very different beasts, one requires you hiding behind a box wiping jam off your screen the other requires a little forethought before opening fire. Crysis isn't Commando; its Predator.

MW2019 on max difficulty is basically 3 hits and you're dead, that's one of the reasons I loved it. You can't win it by attrition or cowardice, you just have to be fast and accurate.

I kind of assumed you'd leap up like a jack-in-the-box as soon as Crysis was criticised, but you haven't really addressed the nature of my criticism, which is that the AI is broken and unrealistic. All the enemies are omniscient and have 100x zoom x-ray vision.

I don't think Crysis needed to be a good game... it was all about the next-level eye candy, and boy did it deliver. I never completed the game, but I must have spent hundreds of hours playing it nevertheless. To many people that will be money well spent.

I think I might still have the Sandbox videos I made - I had a TON of fun playing with the physics and then rendering it out (because it didn't have a hope of working in real-time). Ugh, memories!

Well having played through Everybody's Gone To The Rapture and concluding that even though it's years old it's still one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had I am pumped for this game even more.

Yeah, TBH a nice modern looking sandbox island style game would be very welcome here.

Love it or hate it, I still the Crysis is one of those games that should be in every PC gamer's collection (along with games such as Half-Life and Homeworld). The graphical jump made in 3 1/2 years from Far Cry was (and still is) mind-blowing and holds up today.

If your jaw didn't drop the first time you climbed out of the gully to see the sunrise, you're dead to me :hehe: . I'm still amazed by it whenever I go to have a little play. The very fist time I played it, I started in the evening on Friday and finished at 7AM on Saturday.

It's also a reminder of a golden age of gaming. I remember playing Gears of War, Fallout 3, Dead Space and Mass Effect at the same time.

I can remember the first time I tried to play it, I was only young and didn't have a lot of money but I could afford a few bit's.

I had I think it was a Q6600 at the time, with a single 8800 GTS 320Mb GPU and tried to play Crysis and it ran really bad, I went out stupidly and bought another and ran them in SLI and it didn't improve much but it was a bit better.

Then I started looking in to what I could do, and eventually got a really really good deal on a pair of 8800 GTS 512Mb card's, so I bought them and the game ran a lot better but still just under 30fps iirc.

That is when I found out about the temp issues I was having and stuck a desk fan pointing inside the case, and it went just over 40fps with the temps under control and some settings tweaked iirc.

I played through the entire game on that setup and it looked stunning, but it wasn't until I got my GTX280 SLI setup that I played through it again, and really cranked it up and saw just how stunning it was for the time.

To this day there are still no games that pull off what Crysis 1 pulled off, many have tried but they to me just don't have that "WOW" factor that Crysis 1 had at the time.
