Ryzen R5 3600@stock with Wraith Spire cooler MSI Mortar B350 M Pallit RTX2600 6GB EVGA 650W PSU Teamgroup 2x8GB DDR4@3000MHZ Windows 10Pro 1909 Hi guys the Vcore on new Ryzen R5 3600 is maxing at 1.46 and under CPUZ stress test it hits towards 95 degrees. I'm just wondering if my motherboard is faulty MSI Mortar B350M, CPUZ gives an internal CPU reading of 60 degrees under stress, i've just added an extra 2 case fans one front inlet and top exhaust. The BIOS flashed no problems and i've updated chipset driver.
is the cooler seated correctly? might wanna pull it off, redo the goo and refit it iirc that vcore is on the high side but is still 'ok' by amd/ryzen standards [it's at/near the upper limit though]...
Oh sorry forgot to mention i've removed it and added new paste, and thanks yep it is the upper limit, I think its min was 0.9
I had a little tinker before I removed HSF but I don't think I lowered the offset enough, so I'll keep trying.
I do have a Coolermaster 212evo in the loft but no AM4 fittings, it was used with a socket 1150, this PC originally. Since the Asus Z77 originally fitted, the PC had 3 clean installs. I will tinker in the BIOS for a lower Vcore and think about a new cooler.
1.4* V on a 3600 is normal for short periods of time on a core that is boosting. Mine sees that too. Temps are high at 95 though. Mind you I get different temps from Ryzen Master and HWinfo. RM says I never get above 60 when gaming, HWinfo nearer 70 (iirc it's because RM takes an average and the HWinfor temp will be an exact peak temp for however a short period of time). That's with a Noctua NH-U12S on a Mortar Max B450M. Both say it generally ides in the 30s though.
Looks like a decent cooler, but I will lower voltages and try different settings. On the long term though, is this the cooler? https://www.scan.co.uk/products/noctua-nh-u12s-se-am4-ultra-quiet-slim-cpu-cooler-with-nf-f12-fan
I may have 212 AM4 fitting kit..i'll have to check, a cheap option for you if so (and you have access to the marketplace)
Yes that's the one. There are a few options out there, some not quite as pricey and pretty decent. Actually if i'd had a spare 212 kicking around I would have probably tried to pick up AM4 fittings and given that a go. I know it performed well compared to the stock cooler on first 1xxx and 2xxx Ryzen chips and that cooler is better that the one that came with the 3600. I think the 212 with AM4 fittings will be a good and cost effective improvement over the stock cooler that comes with the 3600, that stock cooler itself worse than the ones that came with the 1 & 2000 series as it had a different construction.
I watched a YouTube video showing undervolting a 3000 series Ryzen.Say for example running a 3600, locking all the cores to 4.1ghz and lowering the vcore to 1.1. Surely that would be unstable?
Well I wouldn't but some would. Personally I think Ryzen in general needs the least tinkering of any chips out there. If there is any gain it seems to be minimal. But that's just me.
Thank you if you could find the fitting kit it would be great, i'm thinking of buying another 212 evo because their not badly priced and I will have 2. The R5 3600 is back in it's box at the moment, I've refitted the 1600. Thanks all for the advice. Just remembered why I didn't fit it with the 1600. The window would be pressed against Fan. I've just ordered one of these hopefully it will keep the 3600 cool. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Y7993MG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Conclusion then, the Wraith spire cooler is not good for the Ryzen R5 3600, now the R5 3600 is hovering in the lower 70s under load. Thanks again
Yeah the spire that comes with the 3000 series is not the same as the one that comes with the the 1000 & 2000 series. A better cooler lets it stretch its legs more too. Glad you got it sorted
