This wont take long at all, I just wanted to get it out there. The Prison Service is paying a "bonus" during the COVID19 pandemic. So, the long story to short is: Managers (Governors) will receive £1500 extra per month Prison Officer's will receive £150 extra per month! Managers have very little contact with prisoners during this pandemic. I cannot remember the last time I spoke to one on a wing. If anybody should be getting a bonus it should be the NHS Anybody else this this is an utter joke
I don't understand the rationale of a place that is always in lockdown receiving a bonus due to pandemic, surely quite a safe place to be, so it all sounds like a joke to me As for the bonus scale, if you want a managers bonus and pay, become a manager, simple. I did it for a bit in my job, moved back to being a normal pleb, just wasn't worth it.
It is my understanding that prisons are generally at high risk of infections spreading through the population. Provided a facility can keep COVID-19 out then yes relatively safe location, but if it gets in a very dangerous place to be. The problem is a prison cannot close its doors, they still have to let new prisoners in. As for the dependency in bonuses, it does seem outrageous. But, devils advocate: I do wonder how many extra hours are the managers working? And are the managers salary and the officers hourly, i.e. if an officer works an extra shift he/she is already being compensated for the extra time where as the manages are not compensate for their extra time?
I distantly know a prison officer. Nice chap. I wish he were getting the £1500 per month extra instead of someone removed from actually handling prisoners.
Put the managers on the wing, see just how long they want to keep doing the job for then - even with a monthly bonus that's as high as many peoples full time monthly pay. Up the Revolution, as Wolfy Smith would say
A prisoner pulled a weapon on me the other day. Ended up fighting with him and carting him off to segregation. Not a single manager asked if I was OK! I was simply sent back to work like nothing happened
As someone who only has the prison insight from a friend in what I'll call a friendly jail, prison break and Oz how do weapons and drugs get into prisons?
Weapons are home made and imprivised from anything they can gather. The drug of choice "spice" is sprayed onto incoming mail. They smoke the paper and go to another planet. Other ways for drugs are through visits, thrown over the fence or by corrupt staff. And believe me the prison estate has corrupt staff.
