Kong you are just plain amazing. If you have future desire to cut out metal. you can look into what it would take to mount a plasma cutter to your machine. you could cut any type of metal. but could only do cut outs good luck... Aimless
Hey, a plasma cutter would be great....until it cut through the x-axis leadscrew! Unfortunately, the machine would need to be re-designed for that, and I would need more space I think! Anyhow, just wanted to let Kane know I won the ebay auction for that power supply, £23.10 including p&p. Cheers for the offer though! I have got the limit/home switches in place today, just need to wire them in to the control box now. Cutting time is on it's way!
Kong, just curious, what are you planing to make as you first project once you have the machine tested to your satisfaction?
Lol, sorry but I'm getting excited! I have a nice photograph planned. Picture a 10"x8" frame, made up of flowers and leaves and such, the photo will be around 8"x6", lightly engraved in the centre. Ooh! I am learning a bit of Truespace as we speak, so should be able to get a frame sorted out pretty soon. Once I get something concrete set up, I'll post a preview.
Here we go, I hate to admit it, but it's taken me about 6 hours to make this! So a few of those with some leaves (oh damn it, I gotta make leaves now!) should do for the border.
Very nice. Hey, ever considered using it for carving into plexi? You could make some very cool etched effects for PC windows. [edit] If I missed talk of this earlier in the thread, I apologize [/edit]
Odds 'n ends Well it's been sooo difficult to drag myself out to the shed at all recently as it is so damn cold! Got quite a bit done though. The home/limit switches are all wired in, meaning the software can detect whether I am about to drive the machine off it's rails, and can stop it for me! I just used plain old micro-switches for these, one at the end of each axis travel. The home switches are the same, if you tell the software to "home" the machine, it will move towards the home switch until it hits it, then move slowly away until it dis-engages the switch, where it will then stop. You should be able to make out the y and z switches from those shots. I got a monitor arm now too! Allows me to swing the monitor around out of the way of the machine when not in use. A real bonus as space is at a real premium now! As you can see from that last shot, I got a tabletop in place now. This needs to be screwed down, and will form the base of the t-slot table I intend to make. Unfortunately I couldn't afford an all-aluminium one, so half marine ply, half ali will have to do!
truly unbelievable work man... such a massive project and youre def. pulling it off.... watchin every update and cant wait to see more buddy
Looks like you are nearing perfection.... Will we be able to send you designs for stuff? I have some waterblocks I am designing I may want made soon.
Thanks for the comment guys, they keep me going Zap, sounds like you're in a rush? I would like to leave the business side until the new year, but if you need stuff sooner, then get in touch, we can work something out. I can't give you a definate date though, coz I keep finding little jobs that need to be done before I start cutting.
This, I must say is VERY cool. Such a GREAT job on it so far I am looking forward to seeing pics of finished work, and hopefully a vid of this baby in action
