'If Oliver Megatron can half-ass the making of it, I'll be dammed if I'm going to use my full ass to write about it.' I don't think he even half assed it! Paid a few people on Fiver to come up with a script perhaps? No wait, that would have been better going by Austin Evan's video!!!! 3

The biggest crime in this movie is Sharlto Copley is in it and they do NOTHING with his character or his acting skills!

I tried watching this movie twice but couldn't finish it. He's just too creepy in it and he makes me feel uneasy.

I know what you mean - it made me feel incredibly uneasy in places. Props to JG for hitting the mark.

The Green Mile - all of it and more/10

I probably watched this when it came out and was probably too young to appreciate it. Great film and just makes me appreciate Tom Hanks more than I already did.

I've still got all 6 of the original books.
I wonder how much of the readers ideas King actually put into the story?

Rewatched Casino in full for the first time in 25 years last night.

Why so long? Well I was 12, and the vice and cornfield scenes truly haunted me for a long time. To this day I still vividly remember the crunching noise of the guy's skull in the vice scene particularly.

But since Goodfellas has a solid place in my top 10, I decided to get the 4K release.

So as the vice scene starts, I'm readying myself for that particular head-crunching, eye-popping, casual-up-close-throat-slitting, and what is this? There's no crunchy noise? No eye-poppage? Wtf? A bit gruesome for sure, but not at all horrifying. Did I mis-remember? Was it just because I was young and innocent? And then we get to the end of the film, and there's a quick-cut from a swing of a bat to a bruised body being thrown in a hole and I'm definitely thinking something is up. There's probably what's only 15 seconds cut, but that 15 seconds of beating was what pushed the scene from "violent" to "harrowing". And I felt oddly short-changed.

So it transpires the version that scarred 12yo me was only shown at a handful of cinema and film festival premieres outside of the US, and oddly enough in the early showings of the film on Sky Movies... which is where I saw it (obviously when my parents were out). And every release since then has had a trim to satisfy an R rating, and the rest of the world has had that release ever since.

In terms of the film... Excellent. Definitely deeper and more involved than Goodfellas, but I'm not sure it has the same panache that I love about it. I'll have to watch Goodfellas again this week just to be sure though.

Rather sadistically though, I wish there was a fully uncut version available out there.

    Parasite 9/10

Great movie, starts out pretty funny and gets progressively more serious and searching towards the end, and cleverly keeps you guessing what's going to happen (it's totally unpredictable). Absolutely brilliant.

Yeah, I enjoyed it, and it left enough to make me watch a sequel.

Had a bit of a Western bender recently..

    True Grit (2010) 8/10

Coen brothers remake of a John Wayne film. 14yr old Mattie Ross hires legendary (and alcoholic) US Marshal Rooster Cogburn to help track down the man who killed her father. Great fun. I needed subtitles for Jeff Bridges most of the time though. Matt Damon as a Texas Ranger was something I never thought I'd see...

    Appaloosa 7/10

Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris as lawmen-for-hire help a small town fend off a ruthless and brutal landlord (played by Jeremy Irons). This felt a lot slower and a bit more plodding than True Grit; the reality is that it's just far less brutal than True Grit and it stands out because I watched them back to back. No one gets their fingers chopped off, for a start... Well worth watching though; bear in mind that this was out before the recent Westworld TV series, so try to remember that Ed Harris isn't playing the same character in this film :thumb:. Viggo Mortensen was excellent as always.

    The Homesman BLEAK AF/10 (6.5/10)

Hilary Swank plays an independently-minded spinster homesteader who agrees to make a dangerous journey back to Iowa to escort three women who have been 'driven mad' by frontier life. I knew this film was supposed to be bleak, but GOD DAMN that doesn't even get half-way close to describing it! I'd say it's worthwhile to watch, but I don't really think the narrative direction they took was a good choice. I don't know if that's how the original novel was written or not, so that may not have been a choice of the film-makers. But I think that's the only point that sours the whole experience to be honest; aside from that it was thoroughly engrossing, even if bleak AF! I doubt this film even scratches the surface of just how hard a life it was for women.

I don't disagree, but I can never watch that film again having seen the subtitle-based sendup of Bridges' performance.

    Yes, fairly accurate!

Made me think of this quite often when watching that film!

The dead don't die - but they take awfully long to not die/10

what can I say, a slow, boring movie with a few nice inside-gags, but only plot for half an hour. booo

    Jojo Rabbit - 9/10

Great weird film, as the wife fell asleep I was able to watch parts of it in english.
Some gags don't translate well to german, some are better in the translation.

Gran Torino. Finally watched it last night. I wanted to see it so bad when it came out, but it has been behind a paywall for years. I can see why now. Absolutely loved every minute, but seriously got something proper stuck in my eye at the end.

Not what I expected at all, and had a couple of twists in it too that kept me glued to it.
