The difference in image quality between my Dell S2719DC and LG 42LB5500 makes my eyes sad. When I was studying in Reading I happily hopped on a train to pick up the LG for £120, please to have a TV and get a good deal. Now that I'm working I'm snubbing my nose at the poor blacks, uniformity 1080p image. I'm planning to move into a bigger place within a year so I don't want to go higher end as I Expect to have space for a 65". I tried asking on Reddit but it devolved into an IPS vs VA fight and couldn't find a UK buyers guide or information on the sweet spot for pricing/features to suggest which models and price point I should focus on. I'm more than satisfied with the sound from my Edifier S1000 and never use the TV speakers so I don't care about sound quality. I know there should be a UK buyer guide on Reddit but I was unable to find one except for a deleted page. This is a current list I've come up with. I would go for either of the John lewis ones, as Curry's returns is so so so so so so so so so bad. You can't request RMA's online, you either need to go in in person or ring up. Plus JL gves you a 5 year warrenty as standard. Personally I'd go for the Song, as in my experience they're always fantastic TV's and that one is HDR10 while the LG isn't specified.
Dont bother with any that have Android TV as the main OS. I have a £800 sony TV and it's a pain to use because of the underpowered specs to run such an OS. This isnt a problem when your spending £2000 or more on a TV through as they use better specs.
I have a Xiaomi box so software isn't a major concern. New list because I decided I want to avoid Currys, I remembered that I've had more good experiences than bad. I ended up going with John Lewis because of there customer service reputation. Also, because the TV said "coming soon" on richarsound. I've only heard good things about JL.
You chose well. JL is one of two retailers (the other being SSAV) for where I'll even happily pay a premium. Not just based on reputation, but because for me in the past they've both more than paid for that premium in aftersales support.
I'm glad someone else had the answer, I would have found it difficult not to be a jerk and LMGTFY it They're by far the most helpful and accommodating AV retailer I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with, even more so than any of the boutique places. 111% recommended.
Richer Sounds are fine to buy from but, as I have not had any problems, I have no experience of their after sales service.
Wouldn't mean to suggest otherwise. They're a good retailer, and from a support point of view IME will go a bit beyond their obligations to be helpful. SSAV on the other hand, have always gone way above and beyond. Even to the point of loaning equipment out when things have to go in for repair/RMA for the inconvenience. Just last week a Bluesound Pulse 2 died on me - I mailed support and within an hour a reply asking if they can collect it the next day. No trying to make out I'm an idiot and doing something wrong, no sending me around the houses with pointless testing, logs, diagnostics, no expectation to bring it in store, or pay for return postage, no need to repackage, deal with couriers, print labels etc - just a one hour slot the next day when a man arrived at my house and took it away. I didn't ask for an entirely unnecessary loan whilst it gets repaired/replaced, but I'm nigh-on-certain if I asked nicely one could be arranged using a display model from the local store.
