Watercooling Leaky res

Hi all

So I have one of these Alphacool pump/res combo units. I have it setup vertically. Over the last few days I've noticed its been leaking where the res tube screws onto the top of the pump housing. It appears that some air has got into my loop and as I game it heats up, expands and this forces the water out, as it onbly happens when I'm gaming.

Any thoughts on what I can use to seal it further?

 

Replace the Oring ? isn't there a large one between it and the bottom?

 

I'm not actually sure. I can't remember wat it was like when I last stripped it down, but I can't see one!

PTFE will probably crack the tube. Do those pressure valves work in both directions?

 

I use PTFE tape on mine too. wrapped it around the thread about 3 times, and has never leaked since. Was running for a year on my old 9900K with no issues.

 

Pete, according to the page you linked us to it states -

• 8x M4x12mm screws
• 8x M4x8mm screws
• 4x M4 nuts
• 1x mounting ring
• 1x O-ring ID ca. 54mm
• 2x stands
• 1x 2.5mm hex key

I would imagine that is the one. Try taking the res apart and checking your one to see if it's hard or what not.

 

Thats between the block and the D5 pump

A bit like alphacool cooling products.

IMO they aren't the good enough quality.

 

Its pot luck with all of the brands I've found. I've had issues with all of them over the years.

 

I've not had any issues with Alphacool because I only have one of their products, which is a pump top made of plastic lol. I don't buy their stuff usually.

The Bitspower Z tanks I have use a O ring at both ends and are both threaded.

 

Can't say I've ever had an issue with Alphacool products in the 15yrs or so I have used them.

As Pete has mentioned, all companies seem to have the odd bad batch.
With all water cooling products, if it is not airtight, then water will find its way out. Something as simple as over tightening and cross threading will cause the smallest of leaks, especially once the temps and pressure builds in a loop.

 

I agree anyone can have issues (EK AIO’s, Mayhems coolants, Koolance QD03’s).

On some of the recent batches of Alphaccol DC-LT pump tops several SFF users have reported multiple issues with leaking. DC-LT with the EISSTATION 40 was the go-to original pump option for the T1, but now people are discouraged from using them.

You are right though, never had any issues with alphacool radiators or fittings.

 

Update: Tried some PTFE tape, still leaks... Any other ideas before I throw in the towel and buy a distro plate or something as this is driving me mad!

 

Are the screws / bracket that's retaining the D5 tight or stripped?

 

Its the res side thats leaking, I can see it dribbling out

 

Can you see if there is wear to the thread on the acrylic tube or on the POM base?

Or maybe if the tube is warped, then maybe a new tube would fix it? Measure internal diameter and external diameter to confirm.

 

The problem is this is my primary work machine, so I need it fixed really, I can't spend lots of time trying to debug it

 

Looking closer it does appear to have an o-ring set in flush with the mount. I'm going to give one of these a go and see if it helps! The tube is 60mm diameter, so it may do it.
