Georgia's showing as flipped to Biden, with 99% of votes in. Can't imagine Trump won't demand a recount there, though - it's going to be close.
If a result is within a certain percentage I think it's an automatic recount anyway. Either that or you can request it. If it's within that percentage I have no issue.
What I would love to see is Trump win overall, and then all the recounts etc he is demanding all go in favour of Biden and Trump lose over all. That would be hilarious to me!
True - but much the same could be said of gambling for instance. It's designed to suck you in, get you hooked, and generate revenue off the back of that. Gambling's hook is that people are greedy, social media's hook is that people are assholes. Yet the overwhelming majority of people that manage to avoid crippling gambling debt seem to be oblivious to their social media addiction. I wholeheartedly agree with your final sentiment - that it's one of the worst things society has inflicted upon itself - people have always been assholes after all, social media just scales and stokes it so much better than anything before.
It depends on the state, Georgia has no automatic recount requirement. A recount can be requested in Georgia if the margin is within 0.5% which with nearly 5m votes cast is 25k, so well within that at the moment.
Yeah it's difficult to generalise anything about US voting, each State seems to have it's own particular quirks.
The BBC are saying that Biden is building a lead in Georgia and, that if Biden takes Georgia, Trump cannot get 270 EC votes.
With Pennsylvania looking like it might turn to Biden too it would almost be a shame for him to get to 305 EC and then the Democrats forget just how close this whole thing was.
CNN's coverage is very detailed and up to date. They even go down into details of the different counties within the states and what's happening there. I've learned a heck of a lot about the US electoral process watching their coverage.
Yep. With Nebraska splitting their college votes 4 for Trump & 1 for Biden, if Biden wins Georgia, Trump can only get 269 if he wins everywhere else (Which I doubt he can).
If all of the votes had been reported at once, it wouldn't look nearly as close. If you defeat an incumbent president, winning 300+ EC votes and the popular vote by 4m, flipping five states (plus a district in Nevada) then that's not exactly cause for hand-wringing about how close it was, imho.
Should be arrested for sedition. Pennsylvania is an unstoppable steamroller. When I went to bed, Biden was averaging 78-80% with 271k ballot left and a differential of 22k votes. It's over. edit: I just checked again, now it's a differential of 5,587 in favour of Biden with 145k ballot left and still averaging at 80%.
