100% agree pet insurance is amazing, we had a similar situation with encephalitis causing seizures for our chihuahua, however, our claim is likely to be almost 9-10x that bill (currently about 9k since September)!

General vets fees, then neurological specialists, spinal taps, medications, MRI(s) and sedation costs, resuscitation and CRP costs (when the sedation for the 2nd MRI - didn't go well and she actually died for a couple of minutes). Multiple rounds of ultrasounds as they wont put her under again, almost a week of in-patient care with IV pain relief due to damage caused by manual CRP on a >3kg dog. We still have physio and hydrotherapy to come and that's £60+ a session.

All covered and our excess was £60 +£20 admin fee for the specialist vets to deal with insurance company directly.

Either the driver is a new hire, or it's a good time to buy a Lotto ticket! :jawdrop:

'cos my cat's now considered geriatric (14 years old), we're basically stuck with the current insurer. It was a 10% excess, but went up to 20% at the last renewal - and there's a £7,500 (down from £9,000) per-condition claim limit. Still better than nowt!

We have a 17-19 old cat (rescue, so who knows when she was born). We have been paying out hundred's a year for her for most of her life but she only had a few teeth out. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Our regular Hermes driver is called Steven, who likes the gym and swimming in his free time.

    Steven is cool

Setting a low bar for "awesome," but yesterday I downloaded a bunch of early issues of Edge Magazine from The Internet Archive and wanted to put 'em on my Remarkable E-Ink tablet. Trouble is... the script I used to use, repush.sh, has broken at some point and won't shove it across.

So, tried the been-in-beta-for-two-or-more-years web interface. As always, it chokes on larger files: no go.

Got the Windows official client working in Wine, which successfully uploaded it to the cloud... but the Remarkable says "Downloaded file is corrupted." And no, the client doesn't allow you to just send the thing over USB 'cos Remarkable hates you.

Transferred it onto my phone, tried to send it through the official Android client. Same thing: it hits the cloud, but won't hit the Remarkable.

Tried splitting the PDF into images and creating it afresh, in case it really was corrupt. Nope, doesn't like that either.

*Finally* found this script, which works absolutely perfectly. That was a lot harder than it should be, and considering the Remarkable runs Linux internally it's amazing how poor the company is at supporting Linux as a host.

    Still, 's all good now!

Just heard about Lastpass planning to start charging for multiple categories of device (Free version will lock to mobile OR desktop), so exported to Bitwarden.
The export/import process is quick & simple thanks to ELI5-level instructions from Bitwarden.

I am no longer tethered to the desk's 12v output!

I've got a micro voltage converter outputting the necessary to the bluetooth controller, I've got a USB-C charging board, and when the battery arrives I'll have a 5000mAh Lipo to connect to it and be able to put it all in the gnatty little pocket I made in the lining just for this purpose. I ran it here off the charging doodad using my Anker powerbank, which worked nicely.

...Now I need to stop faffing around and finish the "zipper" that's full of magnets, reprint a few pieces and attach them, and finish off the wiring before I can start working out in what order to start sewing this beast into one item of clothing.

I'm a man posting something analogous to a picture of himself on the internet - I was given to understand this was the norm!

Yes - because if anyone can actually see your face, they might, for example, realise that you aren't a dog. Nice work on the 'lectrics in the jacket.

Parents got dose 1 of the vaccine today.

Bit odd, found through a Facebook post the number to call and they did them the next day. They're over 65 but hadn't received a letter or sms, just someone in the centre posting on Facebook. I couldn't care if the Australian government is bought and paid for by Murdoch really, but do feel Facebook as official line of communication is a bit grim. Still trying to focus on their impending improving immunity rather than the collapse of society.
