I've got a i5-8600 with a cooler, fitting 2x4GB ram and a GTX1050TI and would like to build a little 1920x1080 gaming machine that's cheap and if possible quiet. All this stuff was on a (broken) industrial full ATX MoBo that needs to be replaced. I'll probably get another 2x4 kit in the future so I'd like to have 4 slots. M2 would be nice, not sure if this generation supports NVMe... I'd prefer a small to very small case, but it's a price question, I don't need any more PCI-slots, so µATX will suffice. I'm (obviously) not intending to overclock (as it's not a K). I've missed the chipset developments on this generation....so What motherboard would you recommend me? Best regards, Xir
I'm running an i5 8400 on a Strix H370 ITX board. That suppoorts 2 M.2 slots, inc NVMe. If you want 4 RAM slots, that's going to be harder to find along with NVMe slots. Have a look at B360 / B365/ H 370 / Z370 mATX boards, but they're not that common in full size and 4 RAM slot configuration. It MAY be easier for a little gamer to go ITX and buy a used set of 2x 8GB 2666 / 3000 DDR4 RAM, I bought a set recently for £60 used. Z390 will work too, but being newer will be more expensive. H310 is the entry level chipset, but again I think boards will be to low spec for what you want. If you get a board with a decent 4x PCIe slot you could get a PCIe card that takes 1x NVME and 1x SATA M.2 drives if ther eare none onboard. Good luck with the search
This could be a decent shout - four RAM slots, m.2 slot that supports NVMe and SATA, six SATA ports. It's also a "small" mATX, so it will squeeze into quite a few ITX boxes. I've owned one and I was pretty impressed. It was about £60 on Scan the other day but stock has dried up.
Thank you, I had looked at the Gigabyte B365M DS3H but didn't know the chipset. It's still available in Germany. I've now found one of the "old" industrial boards may be...not completely dead, so I'll try and get that running,, but I'll keep the Gigabyte board in mind.. Thank you!
So both industrial boards are Dodo´s, so I've bought the Gigabyte B365M DS3H. So far, a sweet little board. And both processors seem to run fine Now I need the fitting M2 drive. Does anyone know what "Key" this board has?
I was thinking of the GIGABYTE NVMe SSD M.2 2280 256GB, M.2 (GP-GSM2NE3256GNTD) Does this collide with the PCIe lanes of the graphicscard?
