Hello! And welcome to my latest project.
After the success of the Jack Daniel's build i done last year, this year i wanted to do something much closed to home.
Myself and my partner are both huge F1 fans, having visited several races and tracks, it's time i brought my love/passion to my other love/passion.

    What is the idea?
Basically, re-design and create a formula 1 front wing, with a PC inside!
I've sunk a good fortune into this build so far and the vast majority will be done by hand.
I do have a laser cutter, however that's a 1 shot deal and i'm not confident enough to risk the acrylic sheets.

    Is it team related?
Yes! In fact it's a nod to Niki Lauda and the Mercedes team. Even though they're not my fav team, Niki was one of my racing heroes. (I'm a mclaren and aston martin lover)

Here's the design plan (ish) i'm not very good at these 3D models.

    AMD has not confirmed sponsorship.
CPU and board may be subject to change.

    Specs?
    Yeah.... about that...
Let's just leave this blank for now, i'm in no rush and there's a global GPU Shortage.
    Special thanks to
    ASUS UK
    XPG Global
    Cablemod

I guess it's time to show at least some work!
Plastics and paints/Vinyls and other bits and bobs have arrived and work has begun! (Slowly)

Here's the plastics and the size of thing is 1.2m wide!!

(Excuse the mess, currently also designing the desk/entertainment unit too)

    Bits and bobs!

Let's start with the basics! Need to bend the wing parts, nothing looks good flat.
Nothing my heat gun can't sort out.

Once that was bent into shape, i sanded it down and proceeded to sand down multiple other parts.

Once i had sanded down most of the parts i needed right now, i cut (using a dremel) out the end plates and started by super gluing these 2 parts together.
    [IMG] 4
After this was super glued, i then welded the 2 parts together using a UV reactive bonding agent.

This stuff is incredibly strong and doesn't snap off easy.

After these were set, i was ready to start adding fins to the end plates (for downforce duhh lol)

And this is as far as i've gotten.
I've got A LOT of work ahead of me and i will be taking my time, so please don't expect massive updates every day.
    It's a slow process.

I appreciate your views, comments and insights.
    Craig

Looking forward to seeing this. Do you plan to follow stuff like Y250 exclusion zone?

I don't plan to have it look like a current wing. But no, will ignore all the technical stuff lol.
More... 95' style with my own spin on it.

    It's been a loooooong week.
But, this weekend i decided to do some more work.

Saturday i started on the wing end plates by routing out 3mm deep slots in the end plate (These are messy and i'm wanting messy, as it helps the glue adhere to both ends)

After this, i routed a line on the edges of the nose parts. again, for helping the glue hold together better.

Not worried about looks right now, all this can be cleaned up pre-paint.

I then cut the top of the nose section

Once cut, i marked where i want the vents (These will also be the placement for the radiator) and the curve on the nose.

After this was done, i added the vents (temp) to see how it'll all look.

So far so good, starting to come together.
    Next steps:
    *Cut curve on nose
*Cut out sides for wing plates to fit into.
    *Fit the motherboard tray
    *Fit the 240mm radiator mount
    *Rub down
    *Undercoat
    *Gloss coat

Hoping to have most of this done by next week.

    Thanks for looking

NEAT! :D What do you mean when you say your laser cutter is a one shot deal?

    Thanks.
What i mean is, acrylic isn't cheap just now and if i use the laser and get the initial design wrong, then thats it wasted. At least by hand i can go slow and get it done right. Albeit taking more time to sand everything.

It's never wasted. It just becomes stock for smaller parts.
I do cry over the mountains of chips I create, though.

    Paint update!
Decided to spend the weekend spraying everything with undercoat, sanding it all down, spraying again and sanding down (getting rid of any clear irregularities)
After a full day of doing that, i went in with the gloss.

I also decided to start test assembly. And so far so good, much bigger than i originally thought, but it's nice.

Over the next few days, i will be attaching the 240mm rad mount and motherboard tray inside.

I'm not happy with the grey, in fact so much so, i'm going to be redoing them in a more silvery color.
There's a few other small parts that i need to sand/spray again.
    Will update as i go.
    thanks for looking.

    MASSIVE UPDATE

Firstly, there's been a change of direction.
    Mercedes was boring and plain.
AMD decided they didn't want to support this project either, so it was a huge downer on myself, made me feel like the project wasn't good enough.
After some hiatas, i re-designed the wing, and i am now coming back with a vengence.

Introducing, the new Aston Martin Cognizant Racing wing.
I shopped around for about a week looking for the paint to at least be extremely similar to that of the new AM F1 car.
    Finally... i found it!!

First thing i need to mention is, the paint changes color based on light and angle. This is thanks to the pearl.

If this doesn't win mod update of the month, nothing will LOL!

FYI - The edges where the sides meet the wing plates, is covered with tape, this is because i'll be layering in some black paint there. (to match how the wing looks on the current car)

New top plate, with a clear window to view the hardware inside.
New end plates curved for.. erm.. flair i mean downforce!

    Anyway.
Special thanks to my incredible partners at ASUS UK for proving the hardware, much love guys <3
They have provided me with the following

ASUS ROG Strix 3070Ti OC 8GB
ASUS ROG Strix B550-i ITX motherboard.
ASUS ROG Thor 850w power supply
ASUS ROG Ryujin 240mm CPU Cooler

LOTS of work still to do, but this drastic change in direction has given me confidence in the build and confidence in myself.
Still feel down about AMD, but hey, it is what it is. Let's move forward!

Will update this week with photo's of the hardware.
    Thanks for looking
    Regards
    Craig

Sponsorship is very random. It's dependent on product release, marketing budget/stock available, political climate, mood of the contact that day, the current phase of the moon...

    Update time:

External looks, fins, paintwork and decals are somewhat finished.
I have reached out to AM for a real Aston Martin badge (don't fancy paying over £100 for one)

Where the tape was, i removed that and tested black using electric tape.. didn't like it. Pulled that off and blended the paint to create a nice flush shine. Really makes it look 1 peice.

Cablemod cables are ordered, and they will arrive soon.
Still have lots of images of the hardware to go up.

And finally, i need to figure out how i'm squeezing all this inside the wing.
SOme parts *Cough GPU cough* are bigger than planned (Bare in mind this was being build before the new series of cards came out)

    Will update soon
    Thanks for looking

    Update:
Spent the majority of lastnight planning how on earth everything will fit inside the nosecone.
    Eventually found a solution.
I give you, The Janky Redneck GPU mount
    Half in, Half out.
Surprising, it fits, and does a great job.

The black back is hindged at the bottom to allow me to open the wing for access.
WIll be picking up some magnets or a latch today. to make sure it stays closed.

After that it's out to the shed to trim down and make flush :)
ALl i got so far today
    Thanks for looking

ASUS supplied a 3070Ti for this project, however it seems we are swapping this for the Strix 3080.
Here's some images of this beautiful card!

I plan to use the light bar on the GPU and have that flash red with the hash tag #WERACEASONE
The rear end of an F! car flashes red when the batteries are charging and raising awreness to racism and inequality in every sport is important.
    Will have more updates soon.
Have some big news to come too. (Just finalizing the details)

nice. i was wondering how that was going to fit on a desk or in a workspace - this works!

I see Monaco, Bahrain, Singapore, and Silverstone - what are the others (excuse my ignorance)?
