Sounds like it's pretty much on the money - I'm not a big stream watcher but caught a couple while the beta was on, and it looked fine for the hundreds level of players etc. I suspect it's the scale up to full release and the server-side code just isn't running properly.
I've put another couple of hours into it I'm not really feeling it TBH. Some of the maps are huge and feel empty I can spend 5 minutes running towards the action just to get popped by a sniper as soon as I get close. I'm used to getting killed it's just annoying having to run so far for the privilege
So as this is now available through Epic for £22.99 with their holiday coupon, is it worth getting at that price? Part of me thinks that's a more than fair price for a new BF game (almost too cheap considering how new it is) and the hours I'll probably put into it (usually ends up around 100 before I get bored and move on), but another part of me says to wait as it'll be on EA Play or some other game pass or given away for free in a year. I'm not in a rush to play it, I've got tons of other stuff to be getting on with, just don't like the idea of the £10 epic coupon going to waste again, , especially as I can't spend it on DLC.
hold off. it will prolly be alot cheaper by easter time and maybe they will some more patches out by then
I finally got time and energy to play a few rounds this afternoon. It was, ok. I thought the graphics seemed a bit pants, some of the textures I'm sure have been pulled from cs1.6. That was on high(ish) settings, need a way of getting the 3070 involved to crank up the pretties a bit. Gameplay was, ok. I don't like that they've abandoned the class system, could have easily worked in specialisations/operatives into the class system, just a bit off putting. Almost don't know what I'm doing with loadouts, what am I trying to accomplish? Could just have been 3 or 4 with some new maps and I don't think I'd have noticed. I'm yet to see.any of the super duper weather effects though. Haven't had any bugs so far, other than spending ages working out why I couldn't assign middle mouse to reload.
I've put about 50 hours in and I agree that scrapping the class system was a mistake. The best part of the game is breakthrough with 128 players, now that is some battlefield carnage right there! The maps are too large for 128 player conquest and the action no really focused. The recently added (but time limited? WTF) conquest 64 is good fun for practicing your vehicle skills and having a more conventional BF experience.
well im 100 hours in now and completely spent. Everything is unlocked and sick of the maps. The game feels hollow and empty.
I just dip in now and again with BF2042 it's the same with Vanguard. I'm back to playing some AC Valhalla also FC6 and a bit of ESO. Enjoyed the gun game for a bit, I think BF2042 is ok but its not making me want to keep launching it every day (31 hours so far) especially at this time of year when I have an urge to play a game.
I've put in quite a bit of time and the reddit anger is fully justified. While I do still enjoy playing it, it's far from the game it should have been! It's hard to see EA/Dice turning this around given the wealth of bugs and poor design decisions.
EA DICE: We're restricting portal xp to prevent people from setting up XP farms. Also EA DICE: Check out our new zombie mode. Come shoot fish in a barrell for an hour for a ridiculous amount of XP Also also EA DICE: Ooops. Gunmaster anyone?
