Who the hell thinks that nearly a third of adult Americans live in New York City?!

It's more plausible than one in five being transgender?

I can see falling for that, though, with the Moral Panic the redtops are whipping up on the topic.
It's one of them tricky poll questions, that: 3.1 per cent of respondents described themselves as atheists in a 2014 survey, but 12 per cent said "no" when asked "do you believe in god" in 2017. All atheists would answer "no," but not all who answer "no" are atheists: you've got agnostics (five per cent per the 2014 survey, bringing the combined-atheist-and-agnostic total to 8.1 per cent) and those who don't really know (another two per cent, per 2014) and those who don't identify as atheist but don't really identify as anything else either (35 per cent of respondents to a 2009 Pew survey who were in the "do not have a belief in god" bucket, which made up five percent of the total.) Then you've the ones who don't believe in god but are spiritual...

This, incidentally, is why if you're an atheist you shouldn't fill in the census as "Jedi." Yes, it's amusing. Yes, it'd be funny if they had to list it on official forms. But it means you get lumped in with all the other religious types, and then Our Glorious Leaders start making decisions based on the bulk of the population having a religion when that might not actually be the case...

    EDIT:
Oh, this is fun: 92 per cent of those who identify as "Atheist Americans" lack a belief in a god or gods. Which means eight per cent of atheist Americans... don't know what the word "atheist" means, I guess.

Yeah, let me rephrase that: Our Glorious Leaders should start making decisions based on the bulk of the population having a religion when that might not actually be the case, but will instead do whatever gets them the most cash from party donors, personal "friends," or otherwise lines their pockets.

I'm animist, not atheist. I broke with Christianity a few years back but I see power in everything. But that's not a check box.

Christianity is now no longer climbing in numbers. Now if we can just get it to fall faster.

I'm 100% atheist, no ifs, no buts. I don't have a problem with other people being religious, as long as they don't try to push their beliefs on me and, don't expect me to restrict or change what I do, in order to suit their beliefs.

Religion is like a penis. It’s okay to have one, it’s okay to be proud of it, but you don’t have to wave it in peoples faces.

Religion? I'll see what happens if I ever die. Don't see much point worrying about something I'm never going to have the answer to while I'm alive.

I leave room for our universe being a simulation that was accidentally left running by a grad student who dropped out. All hail a god who couldn't even be bothered to 'turn out the lights' and now I have to sit here and suffer this pointless universe.
